East vs. West (High School Musical...? nope, NBA)
In football, I doubt there is a bigger rivalry than Ranger v Celtic - that has 400 years of political history behind it and is absolutely fanatical.
One of my friend went to Glasgow to teach french for a year with some program which I forgot the name, when they arrived, they had a briefing where they got explained to never answer Rangers or Celtics if asked which team they were for, anything but one of these for no reasons whatsoever. That friend said that 2 of the teachers from the school he was in got a fist fight because a discussion involving Rangers and celtics along the way. I was quite staggered.

Yep, most rivalries in sport are simply based on the sport itself or local derbies or differing social classes etc... but Celtic and Rangers goes way beyond all of that. They have been a factor in civil wars and everything. It's an almost inhuman intensity they have towards other at times.
It's mostly sectarian and violence is a common consequence when their fans clash on the streets. I myself have seen a guy get absolutely brutalized in Northern Ireland for simply wearing Rangers shorts. 3 (presumably) Celtic fans just battered him relentlessly until they were physically restrained... it is frightening.![]()

The Texas / OU rivalry's been going on for nearly a century now so that'd make it near the top, I'd imagine.
