It's a pretty fun sport. I played in a chess tournament with Costello last year, we both finished equal second.
He was a really friendly guy. He was actually a mixed martial artist but time spent as Michael Bispings training partner as he got ready to fight his comeback fights following the loss to Rashad Evans convinced him that he wasn't good enough to make the UFC.
He said Bisping was an animal who not only battered his sparring partners but was verbally abusive and easily wound up too. Apparently Rampage is a really friendly and cool guy though.
I don't think there is much money in the sport, but all their flight and hotel expenses are obviously paid for and they get a few thousand for the fight, so fighting abroad it's basically a nice free holiday with spending money and the chance to fight in front of a few hundred beying fans.
