Although the rumor is spreading, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer squashes the romur telling Matthew Aguilar of the El Paso Times that Oscar's fate will likely have nothing to do with a bum shoulder.

Shaefer tells the El Paso Times: "His future is still sort of uncertain. But his decision will have nothing to do with his rotator cuff. It's been a problem for a few years, but it was perfect against Ricardo Mayorga (on May 6). The decision will have nothing to do with injuries."


In regards to a possible match up between De La Hoya and Mayweather Jr for September 16, Shaefer is quoted as saying: "The time is here. We can't wait much longer than the early part of next week. Because then it will be difficult to put together an Oscar De La Hoya fight. Time is running out to put together an effective Oscar De La Hoya promotion. So next week he'll probably make his decision." Adding: "I don't know what he will decide to do. It's not my place to speculate on these kinds of decisions."
