Wasn't nobody talking that weight drained shit back in 04 and 05 so don't start now.
it was early in his career and they did talk about the weight issues, same way Khan's people were talking about him having difficulty at making 135, why do you think Cotto only fought like two or three more times at the weight and jumped ship afterwards? and aside from "Manos de lleso" who's really made Cotto look like he did against Corley? no one really, he's given it to everyone just as good as he's gotten it, he's been rocked but he's hurt everyone he's fought, including Clottey and Mosley, not enough to be anywhere remotely close to stopping or dropping them (besides Clottey) but he shook them up, Cotto at 147 is a completely different fighter than he was at 140
Nobody was saying anything about Cotto being weight drain back then. People talked about how much weight he use to have to cut to make 140 but it was never mentioned as a set back for Cotto. Cotto size was always mention as an advantage. Peple never spoke about him being dehydrated at 140. Instead people were sayin how big he was and that he was comming into the ring as a middleweight.

Also people keep saying that Cotto is a completley different fighter at 147. I want some clear examples of this. People keep making this statement on this forum but never give example of how this is so. Yes he has fought better comp at 147 but is Cotto completley different i'm not so sure. Other than the Margarito fight where Cotto was winning and losing the fight at the same time Cotto has been pretty much the same. In the Margarito fight he boxed better than i ever thought possible for him but other than that i'm not so sure of this theory of him being a completely different fighter.
Cotto is a better fighter at 147. This much is obvious. Watch his fights with Torres, Branco and Malignaggi then watch the ones versus Quintana, Mosley and Judah. It's night and day. He might not be a better fighter because of the weight, maybe it's just because he's older but to say he's the same fighter at 147 that he was at 140 is foolish. When you watched the fight with Torres would you ever think that that guy would go on to outbox Mosley, Clottey and Judah? No. I don't want to call his approach mindless but it definitely wasn't polished. He was just walking guys down, throwing punches on the way in but all to often just backing out with nothing. I think the Quintana fight was a turning point, had he come into that fight with the mindset of "I'll just blow him away in the exchanges", he would have lost to a very good Quintana. Cotto was a fine looking prospect but he had begun to look very green at the pro ranks and you know he worked hard because he erased all that green-ness. If you want I can post videos and I can tell you all the specific things he is doing now at 147 that he wasn't at 140 but you're the boxer I'm sure you can see for yourself.

Also, the weight has always been, if not a hindrance, a worry.

agree, anyone who tries to claim that Cotto hasn't looked better at 147 than at 140 is pretty much blind
