Boxing Perspective: Is David Haye The Great Heavyweight Hope?

With David Haye's emphatic win over ‘The Beast from the East’ recently, we have a new heavyweight champion of the world, breathing a whole new life into the somewhat lacklustre division, and as some would say, a dying sport.

When it was announced that Haye was going over to Germany to fight Nikolay Valuev, many thought that he would have to knock the giant out to take the belt from him in his back yard, and that if Haye settled for the points win, the judges would award it to Valuev on the strength that Haye did not do enough.

This is what happened to Evander Holyfield last year. In many observer's eyes Holyfield won the fight but the judges had decided that since he was not comprehensively beating down Valuev and had failed to knock him out, that he did not deserve the win.

Having paid to watch the fight live , that statement makes me laugh , Haye squeeked past Valuev , and threw less punches than any challenger ever , to win a title abroad.

Damn right, until he gets beat people will look at him as something of a saviour to the dire entertainment levels of the HW division.

In my opinion haye,did the right thing.Ok it wasn't a great fight,that was gonna light up the division.
But to me,he did everything right on the night.He made valuev look like a right mug.

What did you want him to do...Go toe to toe with that that beast.That would have been stupid of him.Look at the weight advantage,the russian had.

Trust me,the best of haye will come.

I've never been able to stand Haye. Aside from his personality (which gives me a headache every time he opens his mouth), I don't think I can see him having the same exciting knockouts in the heavyweight division that he had at cruiserweight and such. If he does, he'll have to carefully pick his opponents. Even that will be hard as he'll sooner or later run into one of the klitschko's and I don't think those are fights that he'll be able to win (in the near future anyways). If he decisively beats them (unlike Valuev), then yea, maybe he is a hope for the heavyweight division. Just my 2 cents.

So the Klitchskos are boring and make for dull heavyweights because they fight smart and careful.......So Haye is going to breathe life into the heavyweight division yet in his only meaningful heavyweight fight he was careful and he made the fight painful to watch.....

You didn't read my statement , I was saying in response to the article , Haye did not win empathic ally , he threw less punches than any winning challenger I have ever seen.

If he blows out both klitschkos and it leads to a return in haye esque heavyweight fighting he will of indeed completely re-invented a dying division

2 years down the line if haye has gone through both klitschkos (he wont beat vitali) he may just be able to call himself the greatest heavyweight since lewis!

No he is not, he is good but nowhere near the level of the Klit brothers. He is more exciting but that does not make him better. He will not last long but it will be fun watching him.
