    Messi won...

I would say Kaka deserved it IMO.

I'm an Argie fan and those who know me long enough know I got mad love for the Messiah BUT I don't think he's better then Kaka at this time.

Kaka has proven himself at club level & International level.

Messi on the other hand just can't seem to get it done as of late with Argie. We have failed time and time again and Messi has yet to show up for Argie. Club wise he does his job and I can't argue with that.

However Kaka has transitioned from Serie A to LFP and has done it well along with playing a key role for Brazil in all qualifying games for the WC2010.

Xavi is def. underrated but I don't think he's any better then CR9 so he's def. not better then Messi or Kaka which IMO are ahead of CR9 at this time.

First off It was the European Player of the Year not the world my mistake .

Secondly not often I disagree with you Mick imo your usually spot on in everything you post about, but Messi without a doubt deserved the award.

Lets look at his stats from last season

    Played 51
    Scored 38 ( Not even a striker )

    Assists 18

Leading goalscorer in the CL ( Best compition in the world )

SO basically he had a hand in at least one goal in every game he played quite amazing stat if you think about it.

Kaka as i pointed out before for his standards had a very quiet season imo and would of been lucky to make my top 50 list.

The reason Messi can't get it done with the Argies is down to a number of reasons.
    • Argentina have a completely different style of play to Barcelona
    • Argentina don't have a Xavi & Iniesta to dominate the game
    • Barcelona have a very unique coaching infastructure which basically allows any technically gifted player to perform at a high level
    • Barcelona are a much more dominant team than Argentina
Kaka generally speaking has been below par for around 18 months. Maybe a little longer. It's not helped that Milan are an ageing team who aren't capable of providing the off-the-ball movement required for players like Kaka to dominate. At Real, he'll probably get somewhere near his best. Even though he was important in Milan getting to the CL, a large proportion of his goals came from free-kicks and penalties last season. I know you still have to tuck them away, but his impact fom open play has been nowhere near great enough to have him in the top 10. Not for this year anyway.

I personally can't choose much between Tranny and Messi. Tranny has a better all round game. He's great in the air, can score from anywhere and he win games on his own. His start to La Liga has been remarkable, and by scoring 9 goals in 8 games (i think) he's showing that he can produce the goods in possibly the two strongest leagues in the world. Messi in general has struggled against English teams in the CL. 1 goal in 9 i think is his record.

On the other hand Messi has the trophy haul from last season, aswell as being the top scorer in the CL. He scored in the final, and Tranny didn't. I'm pretty sure that game influenced decision. If United had won, i reckon Tranny would have got it, especially if one of the many early shots he had, went in.

So, not surprised Messi got it, but Tranny is imo the better player.
