Highly, just like how they rate Whitaker highly after he convincingly beat Chavez (No that decision wasn't a draw).

Depends on how much you rate Manny as an all time great Tysonbruno. YOU as a Floyd fan will probably rate him as one of the best of all time if PBF beats him, makes Floyd look better.
I'd say it gives Floyd a good victory for his resume.

Where you been? People have been saying that for years![]()
As for the rest of that post, Mosley, Berto and Williams should already be on a GREAT fighters resume who has been at 147 the past few years, no?
You know how wrong you are with these silly comments. He has took the easy route for fucking ages and it all goes againsed him when you are talking greatness.

I dont consider Floyd an all time great......He was too risk averse and careful for me....He only seemed to fight guys after they showed weakness. Just chased the $$, which is fine but cant expect people to call you great.....

Pac beat cotto who was a top 3 WW, so if Mayweather beats him hes beaten a top WW simple.
I really hope Mayweather beats Pac and the Berto/Mosley winner then no can say a thing

Reading these forums, I'd have to agree with you. There are people putting Manny's name ahead of Leonard, Ali and dare even mention, Robinson... yet even if Floyd knocks Manny out, people are already coming up with excuses to exclude him from the greats. Yes, he has a mouth, & yes he has had some easy fights (every fighter has... David Diaz... cmonn), but he has proved time and time again that his skills are far superior to the best big/strong and quick/little fighters. People just don't want to give him ANY credit.
For me, depending on the manner in which he beats Pac, and his career that follows, I could see a comfortable top-20 ATG position for him (which is still a great honor). If he goes on to beat the winner of Mosley/Berto, PWill and maybe one other good fighter, I could even argue top 10. Although, as always, I'm sure the haters will find some excuse there. I'm starting to see why he's so cynical of the sport![]()

I agree with Kel on this. Floyd has had plenty of time to fight the big WW's and he hasn't stepped it up whatsoever. Mayweather took Hatton outside of his prefered weight class, took Marquez two weights up and refused to make weight himself and now finally he is taking on an opponent who hasn't weighed in properly at 147 pounds yet.
Mayweather has had the opportunities to push for greatness, but I feel he has been treading water in recent years with far too many questionable opponents. Pac on the other hand keeps on raising the bar admirably. I do hope the catchweight thing dies a painful death though.
I think the thing that seperates a lot of guys on the ATG list from guys like SRR, Pacquiao, Duran, Leonard, Ali is quality of opponents.
IMO guys like Prime RJJ, Mayweather, prime Whitaker, if Benitez actually trained are that good, but they just didn't have the right circumstances surrounding them. Cotto proved he was at least competitive with Mosley, and he was competitive with Pacquiao in many ways.
If people are arguing that Pacquiao is too small then its the most dangerous fighter in the welterweight division thats too small for Mayweather.
When Mayweather beat Marquez I felt that was like Whitaker-Chavez, only much less competitive early, and Mayweather didn't impose himself physically the same way WHitaker did on Chavez. Mayweather was able to move forward more on Marquez than normal, but he didn't fight like the bigger man; he fought like the faster, better man. That's how he will beat Pacquiao as well.
He called out Mosley. There's even video of Mosley avoiding the fight in a post-fight interview. Berto was barely coming up while Mayweather was on top. If he would've took the Berto fight people would've just called Berto green & discredited it. Same with Williams.
Mayweather fought and beat 2 of the top 3 ranked welterweights in the world. In consecutive fights. So the argument that he "never fought a real welterweight" is false.
Then he went up in weight to fight and beat a light middleweight champion.
People are reaching. That's why i'm surprised he even came back. He's never going to get the respect he deserves because some fans treat boxing like its American Idol or something and take "personality" into account when voting for the top dog.

Agreed. I remember 2001 when people were saying "the cocky little bugger won't last against any decent fighter" (and this was when he was at SFW). He proceeds to knock out Corrales, Chavez, Ndou, Corley, Gatti, Mitchell, Hatton and dominates Judah and Marquez... barely gets a scratch his entire career, GREATLY outclasses everyone (yes including DLH) and people still don't want to admit that he's any good. His only questionable win coming from a bout with Castillo, where he undoubtedly won the rematch. Pacquiao has not one, but two questionable fights with Marquez (the second being the worse of the two), doesn't give the poor Mexican the trilogy.. and people put his name in the same breath as Robinson and Ali.
I feel bad for Floyd, although I'm glad that he relishes playing the bad guy. It fuels him to his dominant victories. Pacquiao will be no different. MW was right when he said it was a lose/lose situation for him (except for the $25m), if he wins, people will discredit the win, if he loses, people will discredit his entire career (which, I guess, is what they're doing anyway). I hope he dominates the little Filipino (as he's done to everyone else) and retires from the sport that hasn't accepted him from day one. If he decides to keep fighting, that would be great too.

Honestly, it's always hard to say as time has a way of somewhat discrediting certain fighters... but I'd have to say fairly high. I have written long soliloquys on this forum about not likeing Floyd and him avoiding certain guys and what have you but he's fought most of the best guys out there and won against all of them.... dispatching them... I'll say that many were boring after leaving 130 because he seemed so dominant but I've needed to look past my dislike for him to see that whether it was a ko or a points win... he always won in ways where you KNEW Floyd clearly won. Floyd fights in such a deep era in at this time that you'll always hear, "He needs to fight _____ to get my respect" Yatta Yatta Yatta... I've done it myself. But the fact remains that NO ONE has beaten him and we've all at one time or another probably bet against him. He's proven me wrong time and again. He is one of the best defensive fighters of all time. He'll get high marks. He's earned them. PS. I hate Floyd Mayweather![]()
