Was thinking that the first time I saw him.Seems a sharper puncher down the middle. No where near the major network hype though.....and not close to being the orator in interviews that Lacy was![]()

Lacy's career never ended because he was rushed.
Lacy's downfall was down to a serious shoulder injury (rotator cuff) that he obtained in his fight against Tyspko just after his defeat to Calzaghe.
Because of the injury he had to have a long layoff and once he returned from the layoff, he was never the same.

Lacy was a top amateur with over 300 fights at pretty much the very top level of the amateurs. Cloud never had a bout outside of Florida as an amateur. I think Lacy had more tools and was more explosive then Cloud and he definitely doesn't have the wins or hype as Lacy. He looked more polished coming up rather then the raw fighter he is now. The injuries and the Calzaghe fight (which I still attribute to Lacy being stale, not all the way but that wasn't the same guy in the ring with Reid) and some personal problems he said he had but hasn't disclosed wrecked him. It's a shame as he is now written off even though more then half this board picked him all those years ago.
They have similar styles but that's where the similarities end imo.

Maybe its a part hindsight but you could see Lacys flaws early on.As much it was that Calzaghe was thought of some far off unknown to the general U.S fan base.Lacy was the media darling and was being mentioned in the same breath as a young Holyfield.....with a straight face.Don't recall him being near a p4p list really...only by some glue sniffers ?? and maybe a blessing that Cloud is not either.
I think the differences are small but significant, Lacy had thudding power but Cloud seems to have sharper shorter punches and I think there is still time for Cloud to learn how to box a bit better and if he's able to do that and maybe use a little defense it'll be all he needs to really work over anyone at 175 right now.
vs Woods you could tell Cloud didn't really appreciate the severity of anything Clinton threw at him but that's the attitude you don't want to have when you fight someone who is a decent boxer. If you just say "forget it, the other guy is going to score I won't even bother to block it" then you're setting yourself up for big time failure and that's exactly what Lacy did. Don't take a beating when you can avoid one and still hammer your opponent out of there
