Some of these guys are just looking for a reaction, but why dont they cut the guy a bit of slack. Sure hes been an asshole, and more, but if a guy is making an effort to be a better person surely the press and shit should see this and quit with the bear baiting

Yeah well that shows you how good the trainer was to be able to shape a man like him and take his weaknesses and turn them into strengths through a style and a persona.

I think Tyson in his prime was pure quality. He slipped with getting rid of Rooney and then the Douglas debacle. But he was still a monster prior to jail, being able to just 'nuke' it out with Ruddock rather than using the full range of skills he had previously.

The thing that ruined Tyson was 3 years plus behind bars. He wasn't quite the same and I don't think Holyfield (and definitely not Lewis) beat anything near a prime incarnation of Mike Tyson. Tyson stuck around as a carnival show attraction in his later years and the losses to Williams and McBride were were just end of the road blips. But for those few years, Tyson was everything you could want in a heavyweight fighter.

He's a fighter you can always go back to and watch again and again.

Holyfield was considered to be a shot fighter, when they fought in '96. What happened? Buster Douglass a 42-1 underdog that never did anything before or after Tyson. Lennox Lewis was massively past his prime and still beat Tyson.

Tyson's biggest wins were against bums and a weak HW era. A blownup LHW in Spinks? An old Larry HOlmes? Trevor Berbick? Come on that's a weak resume.

And the Tyson fanboys have the audacity to say he's better than Ali. Ali in his prime would do to Tyson what he did to Liston, another overrated puncher with a bully mentality.

Holyfield dug deep and Mike Tyson bought into the hype that Holyfield was shot and didn't train to do anything but throw one punch. Holyfield did cheat in the rematch, though.

And again, Tyson's own fault, he underestimated his opponent and didn't train properly or have the proper people in his corner. He took the L, but don't think for an instant a rematch would have wound up the same.

And Mike wasn't? Mike's prime was in the late 80s. Lennox was much closer to his prime than Mike. I suspect Mike was still on his meds for that fight. Around 1990 Lewis was fighting tomato cans as he'd only been a pro for a year so if anything you'd have to say Lennox fought a massively past his prime Tyson. Mike showed up for a paycheck.

Andrew Golota (36-4), Bruce Seldon (33-3), Frank Bruno (32-2 & 40-4), Michael Spinks (31-0), Trevor Berbick (31-4), Marvis Frazier (16-1), James Tillis (31-. Spinks may have been a blown up LHW in your book, but at the time he was undefeated and had had success in the class by beating Holmes twice. A weak resume would suggest Tyson ducked people he should have fought. He fought everyone the division had to offer while he was on top.

Yeah the b@stards, it is the press job though, to get an interviewee emotionally involved any way they can.

Still mate,also in life when we think we have matured and changed emotionally and got over some things; similar ones or reminders seem to arise again to test out just how much we have matured.

Once the reaction is minimal, the ones trying to recreate the friction usually give up and search for it somewhere else.
