4 others that didn't go the distance but were amazingly one-sided.

Sugar Ray Leonard vs Davey Green
    Marvin Hagler vs Alan Minter
    Tommy Hearns vs Pipino Cuevas
    Don Curry vs Milton McCrory

How about Quintana-Williams 2? Just when we thought someone had figured out the Punisher he comes back and blows Quintana out the water in less than a round.

We have all seen some terrible mismatches, brilliant performances, and fights where it was so one-sided it made your hair curl.

But what would you say was the most one-sided distance title fight you ever saw ?

And which one-sided title fight that didnt go the distance ?

    I'll kick us off ......

The most one-sided distance Title Fight

For me this would have to be Larry Holmes against 'The far too brave for his own good' Randy 'Tex' Cobb for the WBC Heavyweight title back in 82'.

This was arguably the most brutal one-sided affair in the history of Heavyweight boxing. Holmes spent the early rounds picking Cobb off at will. The difference in talent between the two was like night and day. As the fight went on, Larry began landing some very heavy spiteful shots that became as hard to watch as they probably were to take. Cobb showed heart way beyond the call of duty. It's just a shame the officials or his own corner didnt show the heart to stop the hiding. I remember legendary commentator and Ali's well docemented buddy, Howard Cosell, retiring from the game in a protest over this mismatched affair. Cosell threatened on air to quit announcing boxing if the fight wasnt stopped. It wasnt, and Cosell never picked up the microphone again such was his disgust at how this fight had been officiated. The classic quote from Tex after 45 minutes of the worst beating you'll ever see was legendary.

He said to the referee " Come on, give me 3 more rounds and I can become the Heavyweight Champion, I dont think Larry's hands can take anymore ".

The most one-sided title fight that didnt go the distance

I think the fight that sticks in my mind the most is probably Floyd Mayweather's brutal dismantling of the late Arturo Gatti for the WBC Welterweight title.

This always looked to be a fight tailor-made for Mayweather, and it proved to live up to the early preconceptions and some. I dont think there is a boxing fan out there who wasnt in some way or another a fan of Gatti. You simply couldnt not like the heart and warrior mentality of this man. This was probably one of the reasons it made this fight so hard to watch. A complete mismatch in terms of natural skill. Floyd absolutely dazzled against a battleworn Gatti. 6 rounds was more than enough for any true fan of the sport to endure.

I remember Ricky telling me that he went up to Gatti's hotel room before the fight, and Arturo asked Rick what he thought would be the best tactics to use in this fight. Rick was pretty gobsmacked as this was only a couple of hours before Gatti entered the ring and Rick assumed he had a game plan drilled. The bottom line is there wasnt an answer to Gatti's question. It didnt exist. And the resulting 18 minutes proved that. Mayweather was simply breathtaking, a clinic of epic proportions.
That is true Tex asked Steve Crosson the ref for 3 more rounds. Did you also know Tex went to a bar for a beer after the fight while Larry went to hospital for XRays on his swollen hands.
Tex also claimed Larry turned down a rematch his hands couldnt take it

Don't know if this one has been mentioned, but Bruno-Tyson II for the WBC strap back in 96 I think it was.

I backed Frank, seeing as how Tyson has slipped, Bruno had given him some trouble the first time and I thought that having beaten McCall for the belt would have given him some confidence to not be intimidated by Tyson.

Not be intimidated? He fought like he was facing a firing squad. He crossed himself about 50 times from dressing room to ring, and barely threw shot, just grabbed Tyson a lot.

I later learned later from reading Franks book that he had suffered a detached retina in the McCall fight, and they had to con the medical inspectors to let him fight. He took it for some redundancy money really. Would have been nice to know that before I dropped $50 on you Frank. I was a student back then and that was a lot of coin!!

See I disagree with this. Yes, it was a pretty dominant performance, but it was not as dominant as a number of Mayweather, Jones or Whitaker fights. You could argue that Margarito won 2 rounds, I gave him 1, I think it was the 5th or 6th.

Anyway, it wasn't a shutout in the same way as say PBF-Gatti or Winky-Tito. Margarito did have his moments, but memory makes you forget that in favour of the 'highlight' moments which were Shane's. Similar to Hopkins-Pavlik, yes it was very dominant from Hopkins, but Pavlik did have a few moments or he at least had rounds that were debatable.

The most one-sided are shutouts like PBF-Baldomir, where there is no single round that is even debatable.

The point is that there are debatable rounds. A true shutout doesn't have debatable rounds. I thought Mayweather won every round against Marquez, but I wouldn't have it here because there's probably 1 or 2 rounds that are debatable on the scoring.

It's not really aimed at you, but more that people forget the little details of a fight. I've seen Bruno-Tyson I mentioned & really whilst it was one-sided on the cards, Bruno did have his moments in that one. Not in the second fight though
