    Hopkins needs to stay retired...period.

That's what everyone said about him fighting Tarver, INO Hopkins will defeat Calzaghe
Not at this stage in the game....Hopkins won his big fight, let's let him retire for good....

better fight than I thought it would be, if anybody deserved the win it was Winky, I had it 115-113 Winky, but Taylor fought pretty well IMO.

Taylor fought well...but the same weaknesses that he showed against Hopkins...he showed against Wright. Wright is not a strong puncher...more of an accumulative fighter...Taylor started to falter in the 8th & Wright capitalized.

Youth should have prevailed for Taylor...but he just closed up like he did after the 9th with Hopkins.

He needs to work that shit out.

Oumer! Glad you got involved in the banter.

    I dunno.

Tactical bla bla aside, Taylor is still learning. All the others are on their way out... Even Winky IMO.

Taylor was a bit fortunate to get the D in my opinion but still, He's learning and still he's the champ.

Thats a nice place to be.

Taylor has an excellent jab, but so does the Winkster. Taylor's athletic but Winky has the best defense in the game. Taylor tires, while Winky keeps disciplined. Taylor's sloppy technically while Winky is precise.

Taylor's bigger, that's the only thing I see going for him, his strength. His jab may be able to penetrate Winky's pillar defense. Although Taylor, if I remember correctly, does have problems with southpaws. Wasn't Raul Marquez a southpaw? Taylor looked horrible in that fight even though he won.

This could be Winky's biggest test IMO. Trinidad doesn't have heart at this point and was exposed by Winky, also Shane's a little man who was a shell of his former self after the Forrest Dissaster.

I think Taylor wants to prove something in this fight. IMO he's the hungrier fighter coming in, because he feels he didn't perform well in both Hopkins fights.

Also Winky's defense works better against smaller men who load up on punches. Taylor loads up, that's a bad thing, he's going to have to think volume and use his youthful body to his advantage if he wants to defeat the Winky Defense.
Good post but I want to focus on one tiny thing you said. Taylor tires. Imo this fight is pretty close going into the championship rounds, with Winky winning by no more then a couple rounds but...I think Winky wins because he could fight 20 rounds if he had to.
    cc to you and WACKO!!!
Here's what I have to say about the fight:

I thought Winkster could have pulled off a one point win. BUT C'MON!!! WINKY NEEDS TO FINISH WHAT HE STARTED AND FIGHT THE LAST ROUND!!!

He let himself down and his fans. If your up against everybody, HBO, Arkansas, because everybody hates your boring style then.... you know what

You would think that since the fight was basically in JT's backyard he would have been pouring 100% into every round. If you are in some ones backyard you cant afford to take a round off no matter how much you think you have dominated the fight. Especially with Winky's hard luck, why take the chance.

It was 30 seconds...like seriously it was 30 seconds. Such a big deal is being made of 30 seconds.

It may have actually been 30sec. but it sure seemed like half the round.

30 seconds whatever. I've never seen Winky dance around like that.

And traditionally, you don't take the Undisputed Crown by dancing around.

Also, Taylor isn't technically sound. He doesn't keep his hands up. He goes into the corner easily. His balance is off. He doesn't feint. He doesn't maintain the jab.

Basically, Taylor's not a boxer, he's an athlete.

He doesn't even belong in the ring with great boxers, such as Winky, yet he was able to take Winky in a close fight.

Say what you will, IT WAS A CLOSE FIGHT.

Both fighters needed that last round and neither "TOOK IT!"
