This will give more credibility to his demand. Manny has the right to refuse the demand but by doing so, he should have known that it will put him under suspicion. But the pathetic & lame excuses that his team came up with were unbelievable. Although these are just my opinion, I believe that all will agree that both of them are at fault for not having the fight happen.
But can someone here please tell me who brought the negotiations about the blood testing out in the public. The fight may have been salvaged had they kept it private. Once it was brought out to the public, neither fighter would want to be upped by the other.
If Floyd DEMANDED random testing then Manny DEMANDED ten million a pound fines and eight ounce gloves. If Manny had wanted to out-ego Floyd he could have just accepted the testing instantly and it would have shown Floyd he was in for what Cotto got. Yet he refused and handed Floyd a psychological victory. The blood testing thing was public knowledge a couple of days after Manny beat Cotto, I can remember reading it on boxing scene news thingy.
Now, you are making me defend Manny.
Floyd came in beyond the 144 lbs agreed weight limit in his fight with Marquez. He was at 146 lbs so he should have no problem staying within the 147 lbs limit with Manny. This reminds me of Corrales-Castillo II where Castillo came in overweight. They went on with the fight, Corrales loss & his team learned their lesson whereby his promoter vowed that there would not be another fight if Castillo again goes beyond the limit. Guess what, he is again overweight hence there was no third fight (BTW, Castillo's promoter is Bob Arum). Team Pacquiao learned that lesson hence the insertion of that fine in the contract (or would we rather have them put in a clause of No Fight if any of them goes above the limit). If Floyd had no intention of going beyond the weight limit, then I don't think five, ten or twenty million fine would be an issue.
I did not believe the report that Floyd was asking for a 10 oz gloves. Are you implying that it was a fact? Floyd can dictate the terms in his fight with Marquez & they fought using the 8 oz gloves. Why would he then request for a 10 oz gloves with Manny?
You said that Manny handed Floyd a psychological victory by refusing the blood test. Maybe so but I don't think everyone will agree with this. First of all, Manny agreed to some blood test which is already beyond what is required under the Nevada Boxing Commission, they just did not agree to the dates that they are to be taken. I have gone through different boxing forums before I decided to join here. What I have noticed in the Pacquiao website (I assume that almost all of them are Philippinos) is that majority of the posters there are backing up Manny for standing his ground. Who would he rather appease then, his countymen or the American & British boxing fans? In fact, a number of the American newspapers find fault in Mayweather.
