Mayorga was hilarious. I remember watching something similar to 24/7 before his fight with Vargas that HBO used to air before fights (but it was just one episode I believe) and Mayorga went for a run with a cigar in his mouth What a killer.

I thought Mayorga was brilliant. I wish there was half a dozen Mayorgas in vasrious divisions right now, they'd make for entertaining fights, press conferences too.

Look at that. Imagine getting dressed up in an outfit like that and calling somebody else gay. Brass balls and a sense of humour.

When was the last time we had an entertaining press conference. I cant think of the last time there were some good insults and a brawl. Are modern fighters getting boring?

That fight is a very overrated close fight, Ricardo Mayorga was hardly landing anything clean. Shane Mosley landed the cleaner/harder shots, and overall he landed alot more than Ricardo Mayorga. Shane Mosley was comfortably ahead by atleast 3 points IMO going into the last round.

    Was he fuuck!!

Mosley did fuuck all and really couldnt do much, its only when Mayorga started slowing down that Mosley could catch up with him, he was having a job walking around through exhaustion before the knockout shot and I dont really think he was unconscious, he knew he had fuuck all to offer any more, he didnt have it beaten out him, his fitness just ran out, Shane was running in to him and actuallly jumped offf the floor on to him in the fisrt round I think, he was shocked by Mayorgas strength for sure, if this fight had happened instead of the Spinks fight I reckon Mosley would have had his first stoppage loss

Id still like to watch Mayorga fight, maybe he could smash the shit out of Margarito

    Not for me

I had mayorga a good 2-3rounds up and even with the knockdown would probably of seen him winning a 114-113 esque decision!!

Mayorga was a novelty act that we had to stand up and take seriously for a couple moments.

He's my favorite fighter and it was heart breaking to see him lose to Oscar and be KO'd in the last few seconds against Mosley after Mosley was NOT sent to a neutral corner.

Anyway he's going to fight in MMA now, thats why he's not boxing anymore.

And yes its a damn shame.

Woulda loved to have seen him fight Kermit Cintron.

I feel your pain...trust me. I remember that night all to well. Myself and 9 other guys went to a mutual friends house who had illegal satelite at the time. All were casual boxing fans but none known followed the sport like I did. Naturally they were all ODH fans as they never heard of Mayorga. I remember screaming my lungs at the TV shouting at Mayorga to get out the pocket as he was getting killed. Very...VERY SAD night.

Here's to you El Matador! Gone from boxing but definetely not forgotten!

Iv seen some training clips of Mayorga and he has Roberto Durans son as a translator in them, he finds Ricardo most amusing, he'll ask him something in spanish and then laugh before he has to repeat in english what Ricardos just told him, while Ricardo stands there stern faced at the camera

I stll laugh whenever I watch this vid. Its worth a watch if you havent seen it. Oscar - Mosley and Spinks and managed to control themselves at press conferences with Mayorga. Vargas couldnt and I think it caught Mayorga by surprise.

Did not realise that Vargas beat him up in the press conference shame he could not do it for the fight.

I almost forgot how entertaining those two were. Boxing needs more fighters like those two. Now I know this is a Mayorga thread and am a big Mayorga fan, but how bout dat Ferroz eh. That guy was a true warrior who also came to fight every time. I still remember the Trinidad fight, what a display of heart and courage by the then young Vargas. By the way I heard he might be working on a comeback fight with Camacho jr and then I heard Camacho sr called him out, any one else hear this??
