i can't understand why there has been so much negativity and heartache with chavez jr.'s career. number one, he never had an amateur career, two, when he started boxing professionally, he was but 17 years old. sure he's had his fill of mediocre opponents but of the 42 fights he's fought, 7 of those were against opponents with sub .500 records, and that was very early in his career. he has yet to fight a top 10 contender but his 10 or so opponents haven't been that bad:

    in no particular order.

    ray sanchez - 20-1
    jose celaya - 31-3
    tobia guiseppe loriga - 24-0-1
    matt vanda - 38-6 and 39-7
    luciano leonel cuello - 23-0
    jason le houllier - 21-1-1
    troy rowland - 25-2
    jermaine white - 14-1
carlos molina - 8-1 and 8-1-1. molina has turned out to be a very good fighter and could fight for a title this year or next.

i could see if chavez jr. was just fighting fighters with losing records but he hasn't. he hasn't fought elite opponents but he's beaten everyone they've put in front of him.

all they've put in front of him has been garbage, and then to put this crap on PPV is ridiculous, if Chavez junior doesn't face a top 20 junior middleweight this year it's pretty clear that he's not gonna ever do so

I dont know.Think that list can go both ways....numbers in general can be misleading. His and others.Lost the first Vanda fight really.Cuello was actually a solid scrap, would love rematch.Sanchez....ahhhhh.Le houllier ko while impressive was over rated.Thought inactive Rowland showed him to have many lapses. He keeps going through the motions with 2nd tier types he'll get suprised one night.

i believe chavez jr. has been vastly overhyped but is it his fault that his last name is chavez? i can see if he keeps fighting opponents with losing records but what arum is doing is giving him some needed experience before he tackles the big boys at jr. middle or middleweight! i don't see anything wrong with that. and i am the first to admit that i do buy his ppv events because of his last name, he is intriguing and besides, his ppv events always come with really good undercards.

Some of his opponents records have had more padding than a DFS sofa.

I agree with everybody. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will never make it big. He is mediocre, untalented and overprotected. Most important of all, he doesn't need to fight in order to make a living. He's just a clown. I would even say his younger brother (Omar) has a better chance to make it than him.

Somehow, Arum is behind all that and I explain myself: The kid is outrageously popular in Mexico and Arum makes tons tons of money with him headlining his cards over there. Relatively un-expensive cards to put up, load of money to get in return. Do you think Uncle Bob is in a hurry to blow up one of his good milk cow? Sure not. Especially because he's lining low risk cards. He'll continue the formula till it's not bearable anymore and then will land him against a real pitbull for a last money ride and it'll be bye bye little indians.

I keep thinking of Joel Julio as soon as someone mentions JCC Jr. They are the same age. Both are boxers with a good punch in case they endout getting out classed. I think Julio would wipe the floor with him.

JCC is lucky he's in one of the weakest division in boxing (154). assuming Martinez and Williams stay up at 160 of course..
