On TV this week
1/29/10 - ESPN2 (USA)
Jesse Brinkley 34-5 (22 KOs) vs. Curtis Stevens 21-2 (15 KOs)
Minor league Super Middleweight title.
Loving this matchup, should be very competitive, these guys aren't world beaters, but they will give their all in the ring.
Possibly
Raymond Serrano 11-0 (6 KOs) vs. Ronnie Warrior Jr. 13-2-1 (4 KOs)
Welterweight
--------------------------------------------------------------
1/29/10 - FOX Sports (USA)
Gabriel Campillo 19-2 (6 KOs) vs. Beibut Shumenov 8-1 (6 KOs)
WBA Light Heavyweight title.
The rematch, Campillo went into Shumenov's backyard (Khazakstan) last time and took control against the young Shumenov, by using constant pressure. I love what Campillo is all about not the most powerful, fast and talented, but constant blue-collar effort.
--------------------------------------------------------------
1/29/10 - Showtime (USA), Super Channel (Canada)
Chris Avalos 14-0 (11 KOs) vs. Jose Nieves 17-1-3 (8 KOs)
Bantamweight.
Avalos was recently featured in a prospect article in The Ring Magazine, which translates to he is the next push from GBP. This is the first real step up for Avalos and we get to see how he handles it.
--------------------------------------------------------------
1/29/10 - SKY Sports (UK)
Lee McAllister 30-2 (7 KOs) vs. Sam Amoako 6-0 (2 KOs)
Commonwealth Lightweight title
Gonna be honest I don't know a thing about Amoako except what's on boxrec, what I've learned there is McAllister will be his first opponent with a win on his record since May of 2007. So made to order for McAllister. I think it's gonna either be a garbage fight or an absolute embaressing upset.
--------------------------------------------------------------
1/29/10 - TyC Sports (Argentina)
Rodolfo Ezequiel Martinez 35-3-1 (12 KOs) vs. Juan Pablo Lucero 11-2 (6 KOs)
Minor league Welterweight title
I NEED to find a steady stream for TyC Sports, honestly I'd pay for it if I could get it on my cable, pretty steady fights on there.
--------------------------------------------------------------
1/30/10 - FOX Sports (USA and Mexico)
Jorge Arce 52-6-1 (40 KOs) vs. Angky Angkota 23-4 (14 KOs)
WBO Super Flyweight title.
Should Arce still be fighting? We're going to find out.
--------------------------------------------------------------
1/30/10 - TyC Sports (Argentina)
Hector David Saldivia 32-1 (25 KOs) vs. Ricardo Cano 16-6-5 (9 KOs)
Minor league welterweight title.
Saldivia is an action fighter, caught him on some stream last year ago, should be in for an easy night, but worth catching it, if I can find a damn stream.
--------------------------------------------------------------
1/30/10 - Setanta (Ireland), 6eren (Denmark)
Lolinga Mock 28-12-1 (12 KOs) vs. Giovanni De Carolis 11-2 (3 KOs)
minor league Super Middleweight title.
Mock is best known for his losses to Bute and Campillo, he is old and lumbering. Don't know a thing about his opponent.
Mads Larsen 51-2 (38 KOs) vs. Brian Magee 32-3-1 (22 KOs)
EBU Super Middleweight title
Larsen can throw some heavy shots which could be bad news for Magee. I think this has the potential for being a good fight worth catching a stream at the very least.
--------------------------------------------------------------
1/30/10 - ARD (Germany)
Sebastian Sylvester 32-3 (15 KOs) vs. Billy Lyell 21-7 (4 KOs)
IBF Middleweight title.
The high profile fight of the weekend. Lyell has spent a lot of time at Light Middle, he went the distance with Martyrosian and took away Duddy's "0"
Sylvester I think will be just too good for Lyell who's been in with great competition (James Kirkland, David Lopez, "Yuri Boy" Campas) but has always come up short when he's really stepped up.
--------------------------------------------------------------
All in all not a bad weekend for fights
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.
