That's true. You really get a sense of progression in the early albums and a greater sense of stylistic variation as they advanced in their career. That's one of the reasons I am such a fan of Bowie's '70's output too. You get a real sense that pop music is being taken somewhere new album by album. It's something that seems to get harder and harder for artists to do. I suppose Radiohead have come the closest in recent years, but I personally feel that some of their more recent albums have had their share of slack moments and it takes them so much longer, so I guess the comparisons end there. I really admire the older artists that could be consistent and do it on a yearly basis.
