When you think about it all their albums were like artists paintings.

Where as most plod along with their comfortable and known medium the Beatles really did more exploring than most others for that time I like that their albums vary more than most other bands from back then.

That's true. You really get a sense of progression in the early albums and a greater sense of stylistic variation as they advanced in their career. That's one of the reasons I am such a fan of Bowie's '70's output too. You get a real sense that pop music is being taken somewhere new album by album. It's something that seems to get harder and harder for artists to do. I suppose Radiohead have come the closest in recent years, but I personally feel that some of their more recent albums have had their share of slack moments and it takes them so much longer, so I guess the comparisons end there. I really admire the older artists that could be consistent and do it on a yearly basis.

After much deliberation I have come up with the folloiwng ranking for the Beatles albums. It's probably not what most people would agree with (e.g A Hard Day's Night being so high up and The White Album being so low down) but this is how I see it

I've always loved the Beatles. My mum used to tell me that they invented pop music so I kinda grew up thinking that they were absolute innovators of something incredible. I know that's not quite true but I still have a soft spot for the Beatles.

My favourite song is without a doubt 'Love Me Do'. It's the simplicity of it that I love.

Rumour has it that they recorded it in one hour
