Just watched this again on Youtube and it was so nice to see Calzaghe beat him.

As much as you have to respect Hopkins for how good a fighter he was, and how good a fighter he still is - he really is a classless piece of shit times. I mean, he LOST that fight quite clearly IMO, and he couldn't even so much as give Calzaghe an ounce of credit.

He used his head like a battering ram, shamelessly stalled for time after two soft, unintentional low blows, then threw several of his own intentionally when Cortez was blind sided and he generally fought in a 'one punch-clinch' pattern the whole night...

If Hopkins had even a speck of grace he'd be one of my favourite all time fighters.

Don't expect anything else from him though. He's only ever admitted he was beaten once and that was against Jones, now he has seen Jones is totally shot he wants to get revenge? If the rematch had happened when he had just beaten Trinidad then fair enough Roy had just given Gonzalez a beating he would never forget (and never fully recoverd from) and was a better fighter than the one handed man that comfortably beat him in 1993 and quite simply would have schooled Hopkins again. But now unless Roy turns back the clock somewhat miraculously this fight is a foregone conclusion.

I was never a big Calzaghe fan but seeing him beat Hopkins is quite satisfying now!

Totally agree with you Greig.

It was a horrible fight, but Calzaghe was winning handily enough by the end. It was a very awkward first few rounds though. Hopkins was beyond the pale when it came to his dirty tactics. Like you say the head was everywhere, loads of clinching and faking pain from low blows just to buy time was disgusting. Hopkins should have had points taken away in that fight.

I thought Joe deserved the nod for his will to force the fight, and that fact he deserved the moral victory due to Hopkins and his cynical actions throughout the fight. On a boxing level though, I thought Hopkins made Joe look a good few levels below him technique wise. Hopkins was by far the cuter fighter, but as he has throughout his career, he just tried to do just enough to win, and without question, cheat.

I don't think Hopkins regards his cheating as wrong, he has no shame about it whatsoever. I believe he sees conning and tricking refs/judges/fans as a sign of his intelligence, experience and guile.

If Hopkins had got Calzaghe chucked out he would have proudly heralded it as his greatest ever triumph. No doubt.

I had him a good 3-4pts down early on in the contest but he slowly did as much offence as you can against hopkins and even despite cortez blatantly missing a good 2-3butts it was always going to be JCs night

I think that it did poke Hopkins' ego to be beaten by a "white man" that night an he has been lucky to have the very suspicious Cortez to animate the fight, I am certain that a Tony W. or even perhaps Jay Nady would have never got away with so many headbutts without DQ or at least a fair 2 points deduction.

It was a total crap fight on behalf of Hopkins,he just never traded with Calzaghe and spoilt the fight for the whole 12 rounds.

Kind of fight that i would'nt want to see in a hurry again.Shame on you Hopkins

Hopkins was being the spoiler in that fight; however, I don't think he "clearly" lost.

That was a fight that was close enough that it could have gone either way.

If you watch a bunch of Calzaghe's old fights, you will see a pattern. A lot of the opponents he face were dirty and ruthless in the ring. I give credit to Joe C for fighting these guys. Just watch some of them old fights of his and you will be shocked at how dirty these son of bitches can be in the ring. I am not against dirty or ruthless, these are fights and you want to win, so it shows their competitive spirit if you will

I can agree with majority favoring Calzaghe because he controlled the tempo of the right later on, but it wasn't a clear win.

I doubt it, Joe is not a dirty fighter by nature, he simply responded to what was happening to him
