Amir Khan will make his American debut on 15 May with promoters Golden Boy finally set to announce his WBA light-welterweight title defence against Paulie Malignaggi later this week.
Khan, Malignaggi and the president of Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar De La Hoya, will hold a press conference in London on Friday to officially announce the fight, which will be held at the Madison Square Garden Theater. The fight was agreed around a month ago but only confirmed officially today as loose ends were tied up.
Amir Khan to make American debut against Paulie Malignaggi in May | Sport | guardian.co.uk
I'm going with Khan in this one, Paulie can't outspeed him or knock him out. It's the perfect opponent for Khan to make his American debut. It's on HBO Boxing After Dark and it's in the theatre at MSG not the main building, so they're not expecting a massive crowd. Khan is supposed to be on a $1.25 million minimum for his fights and HBO are paying $1.5 for it. After the promoters' take that doesn't leave a lot for Paulie, he's probably looking at about $250. He'll be super fired up for the fight but I don't see him beating Khan. He's only got a puncher's chance.![]()
