maybe mayweather wins a close, hard fought decision against mosely that calls for a rematch. but mayweather, afraid of losing his precious zero retires and never fights again. then pac fights bradley for christmas and destroys him in under 2 rounds and then retires to a desk job.

I think Pac will keep going until he is beaten badly, whether Mayweather does it or not, Pac is having fun in the ring at the minute and you can see it's where he feels at home. If every boxer who threatened retirement actually backed it up we'd only have about 3 world class boxers fighting right now.

Ok, lets put this another way and see how it reads, so how much credability would the title ' Mayweather and Mosley having a great terrible fight would be the worst thing for boxing ?

    The answer, probably alot.
Some people say boxing is a matter of life or death, it's not, it's far more important than that.

    No he wont

he is running for office this year if he was to win do you seriously believe he`d just throw that all away to concentrate on being a full time boxer

Pac has 2 fights tops left, but i would not be surprised if mayweather hasnt happened by the end of the year that we dont see him back in a boxing ring for quite a long time

I hear you, but what I cant see happening is Manny hanging his gloves up when really he is right at the very top of his game. There is a still a legacy to be enhanced ever further, there is still huge demand for his fights, and he has shown zero signs of decline. There is plenty of great fights still out there for Manny, and plenty of $$$$$ to be made. I really dont see him hanging them up anytime soon.

Pac v Mayweather isn't the 'be all and end all' of Boxing.

No, but it does signify a very unique hurdle within the sport that has to be overcome. If we can no longer get the 2 best fighters in the world to get in with eachother it sets a very negative precedent for the sport to come in the future years

However much we wanna sugar coat it the ufc is on boxings coat tails especially in the U.S just waiting for us to mess up every time. If we are no longer able to make the dream matches then eventually boxing will die out amongst the masses

I'd like to think that Boxing is capable of charting it's own path.

I think it's the unexpected classics that can go a long way to keep the sport healthy.

I honestly don't think we should regard ANY Mayweather fights as classics. If anything, a fight with Pacquiao could wind up being a huge let down

    Then what?

Maybe you haven't heard of Fedor Emelienenko? And Brock Lesnar being sick for months unable to defend the HW title he won with a record of 3-1-0... Why should Anderson Silva fight Forrest Griffin instead of a real contender @LHW? How does GSP make Welter every time? Why is his only challenge BJ Penn a man fighting 15lbs light than he? Why are all these PPV for UFC second rate fighters?

You are blaming problems with boxing that are across the board in the fight business. I think it's the promoters, multiple belts, and fighters willingness to accept being paper champs rather than real men. If boxing fails it will be for these 3 reasons. I don't see boxing going anywhere but on people's TVs for the next couple decades. There will always be real champs out there, and bollocks if you can't recognize who they are.
