Dirrell/Abraham, a thought or two.

There's a few of these threads going now, and they are a bit absurd.

Arthur, who I favored to win, was justifiably disqualified for tagging Andre while he was down. Period. End of story.

Arthur appeared to be coming on very strong in the last 3 and it would not have suprised me one bit to see him KO Dirrell late.

Andre is one of the most frustrating fighters to watch. When was the last time you saw a guy literally run away and refuse to engage? He threw a lot of meaningless punches into Abraham's gloves. Watching Andre on his bicycle is maddening.

I dont believe Dirrell ever hurt Abraham. I thought the left he put Arthur down with was decent but Arthur was way off balance and leaning back anyway. I certainly dont think, like some of you have posted, that Dirrell was beating Abraham down.

Arthur should have gotten credit for his knockdown. Their feet were close but that was at least as good a shot as the one Andre got credit for.

Arthur showed little class and very poor taste in the aftermath of the disqualification.

Dirrell is not the kind of engaging fighter that is going to leave me salivating for more. Meaningless pot shots with nothing on them, backpedal, run, rinse and repeat.


Arthur is going to beat the stuffing out of Carl Froch.

Dirells meaningless punches are what helped him win the fight. He could have followed the same path of all the others abraham has beaten but he thought it through tried something different and it worked. People cried about clottey and this dude does damn near the same thing. He waits for guys to throw tire themselves out then counters out his shell, just as boring but yes it has worked. Direll's so called meaningless punches were marking up abrahams face with abrahams own gloves so i think he was trowing just a little bit. Reguardless of how it was done abraham used his stategy direll used his. It worked for one guy, the other got beat. Abraham may not of been hurt but he sure was loosing rounds and that's what is important. Others have gone in tried to impress the fans and ended up sleep like taylor. Direll did very little running in the begining (to save energy) took some pretty good shots and overall did a very good job. And at the very least used his fists in maybe a boring, potshotting, un fan frendly way, but he didn't use them to hit a guy like a bitch when he was down when abraham had plenty of opportunity to hit him like a man face to face when he wasn't kneeling on the ground. Congrats to direll is all that really needs to be said.

They're both not very exciting fighters, Dirrell runs to much at times, Abraham sits there with his hands on his head for minutes at a time doing nothing, but I thought it was a fairly exciting fight.

Cole was awful. He missed a KD for both guys. At least he didn't always buy into AA's whining about nonexistent/borderline low blows but that's all he did.

He sat down on his punches very well from what I have seen so far, and how is a fighter who moves and slips punches any less exciting than a guy with a high guard who hardly throws punches at all?

He sat down on his punches very well from what I have seen so far, and how is a fighter who moves and slips punches any less exciting than a guy with a high guard who hardly throws punches at all?

The answer is because he is American, the boxing world hates "Yanks" that is one thing I've learned in my many years on this forum.

While Dirrell does run a bit in a lot of his fights this is a fight where you can't say that. He sat down on a lot of his punches and only used his feet when needed. No way Dirrell would've opened Abraham up while using his feet. Dirrell got through a lot and even cut Abraham. While Abraham was closing in Dirrell retaliated and dropped Abraham. Look at Abraham's face. It was marked up in many places. I've never seen him look so hittable before. This fight was entertaining and Dirrell stayed right there with Abraham and slipped most his punches. Even in the later rounds when Dirrell probably should have ran he chose to box. Dirrell had a game plan and he stuck to it. This fight Dirrell boxed brilliantly.

Just to add to this, I think the people who are also claiming that Direll was fading are reaching a little bit - I didn't see any evidence of this.

Sure Arthur was coming out of his shell more because he realised he was losing (and should have had that knockdown scored) but Direll still had his legs and was mobile all the way up until that slip.

Arthur suddenly changes his style and comes out his shell so that means Direll is fading? It doesn't work like that...all it means is that Arthur knew he was losing the fight and up'd his work rate. That has no bearing on Dirells fitness.

It's a shame how this fight ended.

exactly, Abraham realized that he had to try and stop Dirrell cause there was no way in hell that he was gonna win a decision after being dominated the way he was, even with the KD he was WAY behind on points, Dirrell could have just stayed away and would have gotten the UD, but well then the slip happened and desperation took over Abraham causing him to throw a dirty shot and earning himself a DQ, no excuses he fucked up
