The conversation goes both ways. MMA guys are written off when talking pure boxing matches so of course boxers will be written off when it comes to MMA. I love both sports but I just don't think there is much crossover room for either. Unless a boxer has a background in some other martial art discipline I just don't see them fairing well in MMA. Boxing involves one thing punching the other person and not getting hit. MMA is so much more to it than that.
See I think everyone understands that MMA involves more aspects then boxing. However, everyone has a base style. There are guys who have used pure boxing to win fights. BJ Penn beating Sherk, he just outboxed the shit out of him. Lyoto Machida seems to have a remarkable effective standup that is based in karate. It's possible that the Klitschko's could beat every fighter in MMA and of course the opposite is true too but I don't know why they would be written off so quick.

I understand that but in MMA you have options. Take a fighter like BJ. He knew going into the fight with Sherk he would have the biggest advantage by keeping the fight standing so yes he used his boxing and take down defense to win the fight. Boxing isn't BJ's base nor is it Lyoto's they just keep the fight were they feel they have the advantage. So the same would be said for someone who fights the klits or any boxer turned MMA fighter. They know they would have the advantage on the ground so they would take them down and keep the fight there.

I'm not saying a boxer would have no chance in MMA everyone who steps in the cage has a chance to win but I just don't think they would have continued success.

They could just round out there skills or if you got a guy like Mayweather with that fast of feet he could be impossible to take down before it's lights out. I think it's viable, BJ may have wanted to stand but Sherk was completely incapable of taking him down it seemed like.
