I think he did pretend he collapsed and saw spots in order to look like the punches he received behind the head didn't lead to some comedy... which everybody thinks.

Actually, I think more he pretended he did collapse, after all his circus, i have quite difficulties to imagine he did really collapse to his knees, left the arena by his own means, went to the hospital for a check up and has beel 100% cleared of anything.
