I have a mutual friend with a local fighter who recently lost to Frankie Gavin. The fighter in question was dicked around by Frank Warren from the start and up until 10 mins before the fight was led to believe he wasn't getting paid. Anyways...
From the outset Gavin was dominating and you could argue the fight was only going one way. Gavin eventually caught him off balance with a glancing shot and put him down. He got straight back up and took the standing 8 count, straight after which the ref says to him, "You've had enough mate, no point you carrying on" and then calls the fight off.
Admitedly he didn't protest all that much but this was just a payday for him so why risk carying on and getting hurt?
I'm not saying this is 100% true but it makes you wonder if the ref was 'influenced' by the promoter in some way, hence the early stoppage!
