Wait, so is he suggesting that the fight didn't cause GMan to be the way he is now? or that ignoring the doctors advice caused it?
Because he was in no way "okay" after the fight. He was peeing blood in the locker room according to the documentary..

Also I heard Montell Griffins had KOd him badly in sparring leading up to the Fight, from a very good source.

I didn't know that he had hard sparring with Griffin, but I had heard he may have been going in the ring with a possible head injury and that the MRI scans had not been carried out before the fight the way they have to be in world level fights these days.
I assume that these stories are linked and from what i've read in this thread I would have to say that it sounds like a likely assumpton too. I just wonder what would have happened had the fight ended when Gerald had Benn in trouble early on?? Would he have still ended up in a bad way or, if he was carrying a head injury already, would it have been found and sorted before any lasting damage occured

I think people are comparing the screening/medical processes of today with 1995..
and plenty of boxers have got in to the ring WITH injuries
Array
Maybe, but how many have got into the ring with unknown head injuries?? Fighting with a broken hand is not like getting into a ring with a timebomb in your head.
I'm not saying anyone knew he was in a bad way although he did suffer from regular, severe headaches after he fought Julian Jackson first time around.

Bunce is full of shit if that's what he's claiming. McClellan was taken to hospital and had an immediate operation on his brain. Benn and McClellan spent the night in beds next to each other in a private hospital ward. From Sunday morning onwards the press were reporting that McClellan had suffered a serious brain injury, had been operated on and it was touch and go whether he'd survive. He was in a coma for two weeks. He was eventually flown out of the country in a wheelchair on a funking drip.

Why would Bunce make something like that up though? Ive heard him say it before

post brain surgery is it now (or then) standard to keep a patient sedated to allow swelling to go down?
I don't think flying someone out would do them any good.. your body swells during flight. But I'm no doctor.![]()

I had always assumed it went like Kirkland said but who knows, I definitely don't.
