Default Things you got where high price didn't equal quality

For me it has been clothing..

    * Two pairs of Calvin Klein boxers I bought had the seam stitching come loose after only a few washes.. However I have bought tonnes of cheap boxers from Target that are almost bulletproof.. This was $60 CK vs $6 Target boxers..

    * A Guess sweater shirt I bought a while ago from a glamorous store cost me $160 and within 1 1/2 months the stitching came out from the shoulders and was completely unfixable without looking ridiculous..

    * I had a couple of cheap pairs of tracksuit pants. $10 - $15 for each and they were amazing... I decided though that for going to the gym I would by a nice pair of Adidas.. I bought a quality pair for $80, and after ONE wash, the elastic had completely broken in the waist and they would just fall off me. Fortunately there was a thread type thing that could do up as well, but after just 2 more washes, they had turned to crap and come apart making it almost impossible to do a useful knot..

In these cases I thought that the MUCH high price and brand pedigree would equal quality, but the quality has been complete rubbish and things costing usually 90% less have been MUCH MUCH MUCH more durable...

Oakley sun glasses....I had a sweet pair of Oakleys and the fucking ear pieces kept breaking. And it's $15 a pop to buy just the frames...FUCK THAT SHIT!

I've had some expensive wines that weren't that good, but I've also had some expensive wines that were just phenomenal.

I paid £60 for a Paul Smith belt a couple weeks ago. I've worn it about 5 times and already it's starting to look scuffed and marked in places.

I don't know if this is normal but I was a bit disappointed. I mean I bought a watch with a leather strap at the same time and that gets taken on and off all the time and there's no marks on that at all.

Oh another, not really that expensive but I bought a cashmere jumper from Mark's and Spencer for £50 which already has holes in it after about 18 months. I've never had holes in a jumper before and this was one of the most expensive and supposedly quality garments I own.

You've been unlucky with oakley, I get mine for close to 7 years now and they still look great. I feel your pain for wine though

After years of owning Fords, my old man bought a C Class Merc with his retirement payout.

Bloody thing has never been out of the garage.

Why are you worried about what I'm doing? If you ever get given six months to live and have your body ravaged with cancer I'm sure the government will help you out with a couple hundred pounds a week too.

I once paid the equivalent of 200 pounds for a jacket and it was tattered and worn within 6 months or so. I didn't even wear it that much. The dry cleaners must have got to it or something.

I won't spend so much on single items these days unless it is a coat or something strong and looks like it will last. I have a leather jacket that has lasted 8 years and still looks decent and I have a winter coat that cost a fair bit and that has seen me through 5 winters now. Those kinds of things are worth paying for. Jackets you need to be careful with.

I"ve tried almost every pairs of combat boots possible, The canadian army ones I bought used have been wonderful for the price paid, my 2 pairs of Dr Martens have been fantastic too but I've been seriously disappointed by the pair of Rangers I bought: The sole unglued from the boot and have been nearly impossible to repair after 3-4 months only. Probably a fabric flaw or something but I've been so disgusted that I never bought them ever again.

    Who's worried?
I don't dispute that, just the spending £60 on a belt part of it!

Obviously I didn't spend my benefit money on the belt, I've learnt to be self sufficient shall we say.
