it has really grown on me over the past year, I now have a better understanding of the various styles and moves they have.
The same old argument gets trotted out about them not punching properly and not being able to last with a boxer. Same is said in reverse, tell a boxer to go in with a Ju Jitsu expert and watch him get his ass thrown down and his arms snapped off. of course a boxer will win over in a straight stand up game, that's why he isn't in the UFC.
Lets see how well Toney does , they will give him someone with an ego who wants to punch so he looks good, then they will have to put him in with someone like Lesnar...........now that might be a fun night.
Different strokes I suppose, I will always be a boxing fan first off, but that said I like the fact they don't write you off for one loss and like said previously they test you early.
I do wonder how long they can last though with just one Champ per weight, will they get like boxing and have to have seperate organisations to cope with the growing amount of MMA fighters and demand for more shows.
As for the gay comments![]()
They already do mate. Strikeforce have their own world champs and there are other minor organisations out there too.
The UFC have been pretty aggressive buying up the other organisations, Pride, and now they seem to have control over WEC.
Strikeforce is definitely growing though. They have Fedor in their heavyweight ranks so can lay claim to have the real man at that weight class. Meanwhile Jake Shields completely dominated Dan Henderson to retain his middleweight title last month.
Their world champs aren't as good as their UFC counterparts in the main, although Shields would make a decent opponent for Silva.
Excellent point on UFC agressive marketing , the only real other organisation I had really heard of was Pride, now you've just given more options to look out for downloading Bilbo !!
All they need to do is have Fedor whack out Lesnar and they can claim the big title. Then they would probably be on the map more......until UFC buy them out !
...another thing about MMA/UFC is that it's still in the very young stages and it's rapidly evolving into a more well rounded fighting style.
But the punching is just ridiculous and I laugh at them
I do think that UFC has some great fighters and puts on some good cards. Boxing ppvs tend to be one big question mark main event and a bunch of nothing in the televised undercards. UFC sometimes has multiple belts on the line in one night. My only problem with MMA is the odds that some dude beer belly slob has of comin in and winning. Boxing, to the untrained eye, looks more civilized cuz people feel like if they walked in there, they dont have a chance at winning against an experienced fighter. Some guys sit on the couch and watch of UFC fight and really believe they could train for a couple weeks and go in there and hold their own. Someone could train for a couple years and get their head knocked off in a boxing match against amateurs. I'm a boxer who has respect for both genres cuz i just love all fighting. But when I hear people talk about the two, people dislike the odds that some toughman has of catching a guy with a nothing hook (and we all know that most of these mma dudes cant punch worth a shit), and walk away with a W. I dont agree or disagree, but they make a good point. Some people enjoy upsets, others would like more definitive great fighters, rather than have the biggest star and most seen person in mma be the commissioner.
This Is The Life I Chose...
