Nah he's only saying that, he's done and dusted, loaded as it is and didn't get the mayweather fight. He can go on cause he is still quality, but he won't. Don't believe everything you read knobhead!

De la Hoya said: "I'll only retire once and felt too much pressure to decide.

"At this point I'm leaning towards not retiring. I do want to fight on because this is what I love."

The 33-year-old has been pondering his future since he stopped Ricardo Mayorga in May to win the WBC light middleweight title in May.

But the 1992 Olympic gold medalist, who has won titles in five weight classes, refused to be rushed into a decision so soon after that dramatic victory in Las Vegas.

De la Hoya said: "The decison was too much for me, it was overwhelming. That's why I postponed making it.

"But when and if I decide to have my next fight it will be Floyd Mayweather Jr.

"That's the only name I can come up with that will satisfy me to train for three months and prepare myself. It's the only name out there for me."

Mayweather would have to move from up from 147 pounds to 154 for the fight.

And de la Hoya admitted: "I realise Mayweather can beat me, but I still feel this body has some gas left in it."

    -----------------
So he will only fight if he gets mayweather, which we all want, but he won't get. If Only.........

Floyd son do me a favour, put De La Hoya into retirement, and then whip your daddy's ass.

Five reasons why ODLH - PBF will happen next year
    5. Shane beat ODLH twice, PBF will beat Shane, ODLH will get a chance to kill two birds with one stone.
    4. Mosley - Mayweather will be a HUGE moneymaker for Golden Boy Promotions.
    3. ODLH has a huge ego and he wants to go out knowing he was the best. He will try at least.
    2. 30 Million Dollars. Letting Mayweather defeat more big names just makes PBF a bigger PPV attraction and in turn, puts more money in the pot for ODLH.
    1. Let's face it, De La Hoya is a huge famewhore. He needs this fight to stay in the spotlight. He's the Paris Hilton of boxing.
I think you may be onto something it makes perfect sense from Oscars point of view but the only problem is Vargas is going to beat Mosley in the rematch and even if he didn't Mosley would beat Mayweather.

I think Floyd has to beat Hatton or Baldomir (if he beats Gatti) before Oscar to legitimize his 140 and 147 status!! True Mosely would be an even greater win so at least one of those fights should happen first then we got a megafight!!

vargas would not beat mayweather, neither would mosely......you are out of your mind if you think so.

why would mayweather need to beat hatton to cement his status at 147 (i dont even need to mention baldomir) rickys camp is saying, not till 07 at least, not to mention he just had a tough fight with collazo

mosely/mayweather would be a good fight.........but shane is a little past his prime right now

    and mayweather would slaughter vargas

I'm a man of my words, so when a champ like Oscar speaks, i accept what he says.

His points are cleared: he won't retire, but he won't fight again this year. What's so hard to believe about that?

You should never assume on the news before it is announced and that is exactly what you did on an earlier post. In that instance, i chose not to believe what you wrote and that's why you're a bunch of bull. =)

sry mate you need to re-read my post.... I never said Vargas would beat Mayweather and I didn't imply that PBF has to beat Hatton to cement his status at 147. If Gatti beats Baldomir then I will be satisfied that Mayweather has nothing to prove at 147 but if Baldo wins then he and Hatton have earn't their place as the no1 of their respective divisions and Mayweather has proven nothing to me except that he was the ruler of the lightweights.

Mosley has only ever lost to guys that had obvious physical advantages over him, something Floyd doesn't have. If you think Zab Judah was a handful for the first 5 rounds then Mosley is Floyd's nightmare.
