When they first fought both were in the top 5 p4p and it was such an eagerly antipicated fight.

A gruelling first encounter, followed by two spectacular rematches.

But in fighting only each other they lost contact with the rest of the boxing world and became irelevent.

It's almost like they no longer exist now how little they are spoken of these days.

It's especially bizarre in the case of Israel Vasquez. He avenged his loss against the, at that point top 3 p4p Rahpael Marquez and then beat him in again in arguably the best fight of last year, and now he's not even in anyone's top 20.

Had he knocked out Vic Darhinyan in 2007 and then done FUCK ALL however he's still be top 3 p4p.

That said, even I'm not into this fight. I don't care about it I guess because it has no relevance. For a fight to mean anything it has to be significant, for a world title, for the linear or Ring championship, for the right to be the known as number 1, or to be considered a contender for example.

These guys are just operating within a bubble, with no context, and so although I have no doubt the fight will be great, it's not really possible to look forward to it.

It's like having the greatest action sequence of the year with the best special effects, but it's not in a movie. It's the action sequence on its own. Without the plot, the dialogue and the narrative that builds to the action you will feel no emotional pull and therefore it's not memorable or as awesome as it could be.

I just hope that whoever wins, if they carry on gets back on with the business of fighting the best in the division, and then I can care about them again.
You know, it's rather true... They've become detatched... Like they're outside on the rim of the sport doing their own thing... I didn't see Izy's last fight but I read it was rather workman like until he hurt Priolo in the 9th.

Either way, I wouldn't feel to bad for them. They're making alot of money off of each other... Though I don't think they needed to make this fight cuz they've fought eachother enough and taken enough punishment in their fights, I'm anticipating another firefight!!

You know, when I think about these fighters and their fight now.. I can barely remember what weight class they were. This guys matched up way too well. I wouldn't even know who to throw them in the ring with these days, I mean no one with a promising young fighter would want to throw their guy in the ring with these two cagey, future Hall of Famers. Let them keep fighting until all that dust settles.

These guys are like the defference between watching Pride fights and UFC... Pride is just all out war... But a "good" boxing match is better than "the best" MMA. Don't get me wrong or anything!!

Vasquez wins and I hope moves on to bigger and better things, if he has anything left that is.

I agree with Bilbo when he spoke about feeling sorry for the two fighters. Talk about a career stall.

I remember saying they shouldn't fight again after the first was over. Someone with great research skills might be able to find the thread.

Vasquez got my vote but who the hell knows? I see the fight ending quickly because the previous beatings will cause one of them to realize it's not worth it just to fight a fifth time. Or it goes the distance becasue they are tired of slowly killing each other and ease up on the gas.

These two guys are such complete warriors and such a great matchup that it is just great!

I personally have Vasquez to take this bout but who really knows?

It is a complete travesty that these two guys aren't talked about in p4p rankings after these III EPIC fights. Why? Because they took some time off after three REAL FIGHTS? These guys threw more punches in three fights than David Haye has his whole career!

    REAL MEN!

This will go down in history as one of the greatest series of fights ever.

I want to know who everyone has, and why.
Can i be honest ? i'd actually forgot about it for awhile, even though im a Rafael Marquez fan. It just doesn't interest me as much anymore. The other 3 fights i was really looking forward to, because at that time they were the best at there division.

It was like a MAB vs Erik Morales encounter, put it this way. Would anyone want to see MAB vs Erik Morales 4 ? i know Marquez/Vasquez. Aren't as shot as them two, but to me it really is a tad pointless IMO.

There no longer the top of there division, and they've been inactive. And there surely close to being shot now, i'd actually rather if they'd fought Lopez, Gamboa, Caballero.

I mean sure its good action wise, but other than that it just doesn't seem worth it. Both guys deserve so much more.

Just saw a bit of the weigh-in on ESPN2 replay.

Marquez looked sickly to me. If someone told me that he'd just been rescued after 3 months on the open ocean, with nothing but a life raft and a jar of mayo, I'd believe them.

I think Marquez has way less mileage, Vasquez has been in more wars IMO. Vasquez looked like he was gonna lose that fight against the journeyman until that left hook. Marquez looked solid and dominated. I dont know if that means anything but I am leaning toward Marquez to even up the series.

How can you all feel that bad?? These guys are fighters. They could have fought tomato cans and extended their careers for a few years. But they didn't. Hell they would be both ranked p4p if they had done so. I know the Ring magazine is just as corrupt as the WBC, they just cover things up nicer. FUCK ODLH and FUCK THE RING.

They are aging anyway and fought great fights while at their peak. In addition they have made quite a few bucks and created one of the greatest trilogies ever. Of course there is always a tragic side to boxing, but this is a hurt sport and part of the romance of it. I am stoked and I respect both fighters. If you all don't want to watch, fine fuck it, don't watch it. I don't need some people who say "time to move on" ruining the fight for me.

Lets see David Haye get in three great fights. Hell lets see him fight once.

Jesus why all the hate against Oscar.

Well I am excited to see this fight. They signed the contract and are getting paid handsomely for what they do. Whatever happens...happens.
