I have an interest in current events, but it does all seem to make me quite angry. I guess I have a hard time connecting the way things should be in an idealistic sense with how things actually are in the real world. In the mind of miles, the President is an altruistic person who serves in the interests of the general population, freedom of speech is upheld without fear of reprisals, states don't commit terrorist acts, the media doesn't distort and so on and on and on. It's quite a pure place with it's heart in all the right places.
My cynicism comes from having to reconcile that bridge between my idealism and the harsh reality of the way the world really is. I guess it results in me venting quite a bit. Also living in an alien country and being married for so long my social life is a bit limited. This board is my refuge and where I come to work it all out really. But the recent threads have drained me somewhat, I need a break from the big issues. There have been too many of these threads that have gone on for pages. They are hard work and lacking in fun.
I don't work for the embassy though I do recieve their group newsletter via email every now and then. The British embassy is pretty cool and much better than the American one which has a bad rep. I've never seen the Israeli embassy.
