Bilbo the propagandaist, who would have known...
If it's acceptable to hate the Jews, then it must also be acceptable to like them, only I fair I think.
Plus this video is fucking funny, and highlights well the absurdity of hating on them above all other nations imo. When you see what they have contributed to the world and contrast that with their neighbours..............
No offense, but one smarmy, sarcastic video is hardly an authority for such things. I'm sure if I gave a fuck I could find a video documenting all the fantastic contributions of Israel's neighbors who you so quickly deride.
And it is not acceptable to hate the Jews (even Miles would agree with that. I hope). However, being critical of Israel as a nation-state and being anti-semetic are two vastly different things. That is one of the most commonly used strawman arguments and frankly it's just childish and diversionary.
Also, scientific achievement and business innovation/production is no reason not to criticize a nation. Nazi Germany was very productive and their scientists were responsible for some amazing innovations, both during the war and afterwards.
All good points Josh and I agree with everything you said. I don't think I have accused anyone of anti-semitism although I guess using the word jew instead of nation state of Israel in my post above may have created confusion.
I don't actually think i've criticised any other nations or governements either. To my knowledge only Israel has been singled out this week. I can't think of anything negative I have said about the Palestinian people, Hamas excluded, but I believe them to be a terrorist organisation.
Anyway I think the video is lighthearted and humourous more than anything. It's not as if I'm wishing a fighter to get battered becuase he's Jewish (that's at least kind of anti-semitic imo) or telling other posters to go fuck themselves because they disagree with me (which is kind of aggressive I think) I have just posted what I think is a funny video. of course you don't have to agree with that sentiment and i respect that.
I have no real problem with the video. I mean, I disagree with its message, but that's far from a big deal. It does nothing wrong per se, I just wanted to give my $0.02 about what I saw from watching part of the video and about the notion that being anti-Israeli policy or even anti-Israel equals anti-semetism, an argument I sometimes come across and which always pisses me off.
Yes, of course I distinguish between peaceful, good natured Jews and the aggresive, violent politics which currently governs the Jewish state. My attacks on Yuri Foreman blurred the lines in an ugly way and I've already said that I now disown those arguments. Soju is a dangerous paint stripper, don't drink it.
I do think there are plenty of good reasons to boycott Israel all in all. They continue to blockage Gaza, they continue to shoot down Palestinians on an almost daily basis, they continue to build illegal settlements, they are unwilling to negotiate for a fair two state solution and what's more they deny basic rights to Palestinians forced to live within their borders. If the world can get get mad with South Africa, then Israel for me has become far more problematic.
I'm throwing my computer out of the window as we speak. No, not really. Yes, a humourous enough video. Where do you start with an Israeli boycott? I suppose it would have to be with companies located in Israel and wouldn't be able to cover everything. TBH, I have no idea which companies are Israeli, but I don't think I consume any on a daily basis. You know, I've never really given it that much thought.
I only boycott Samsung, but that's not too hard. You will never find a Samsung product nor one made by one of their subsidiaries in my home and that is a conscious decision. Boycotting an entire country seems more problematic, but Samsung does appear to be about half a country.
