Shocked Duddys face isnt cut!
Great fight between two limited fighters! A bit of Gatti vs. Ward about it in a small way.
Both guys showed heart, spirit and guts that far exceed their skills. True warriors!
My only thought left is... How much did Wayne McCullough sell his chin to John Duddy for?The lad is made of metal, haven't seen anyone take so many hard and flush shots for a while. I was sure Duddy was going to go from round 9 onwards, couldn't believe he made it to the end.
Credit to both fighters, and classy post-fight interviews too.![]()
WTFDid I just see chavez jr. In a possible FOTY....
Just for that Roach and Ariza get trainer and conditioner of the century......Im still in shock that I saw chavez jr in an entertaining fight.....
if chavez jr. keeps improving like this, he's going to be a world champion someday! all he ever needed was a good trainer and thankfully he's got one in roach. the fact that chavez jr. is only 24 years old, he has alot of time to improve. roach is smarter than everyone gives him credit for. he knows pacquiao is retiring soon and chavez jr. has a chance to be the new face of boxing after mayweather jr. and pacquiao. if roach can help chavez jr. bring out his potential, roach is sitting on an absolute gold mine. he and saul alvarez are potentially the next big things in boxing!
here is my full fight report including round by round scoring.
Its pretty long but I hope you enjoy it.
John Duddy defeated by Julio Cesar Chavez at the Alamo
(its contains photos to break the text up a bit for the dumbies!)
mad,
pacquiao's time is almost up, then what are you pacquiao fans gonna do? i mean, who do you have on the horizon? donaire? won't fight anybody his size! who? chavez jr. and canelo alvarez are two rising stars along with a bunch of other fighters. you just can't fathom the fact that philippine boxing is dead after pacquiao and mexican boxing will keep going and going and going.....![]()
Good for Jr. Seriously, he's been tested a lot early considering how late he started. That can't be overlooked and maybe he's being forced to step up early because he has the undefeated record and the last name but he has skills. He also has some heart and it's asking a lot for someone to be rushed to the top level like Miguel Cotto (ridiculous!) 7 years after having his very first fight! I've always thought he was at least a little bit more naturally talented then others like his brother Omar. I felt bad for him when he got booed after nearly blowing it against the very tough Matt Vanda.
Chavez did better than I thought but Duddy's defence, bloody hell. Duddy makes Carl Froch look like Floyd Mayweather when it comes to defence. Still can't see Chavez beating any legitimate world level middleweight.
I was certain Duddy had what it takes to win against Chavez. Well.. I was dead wrong on that one, unfortunately for the irish boy. Chavez did much better than what I thought but was not close impressive enough in my opinion to be a real champion still.

That's the way it is, not the way it ends
Before the Chavez Jr. bandwagon gets too crowded, I should warn you all that:
1. It's made out of soft, suspect material.
2. It's never been driven over 30 mph.
3. It's always been driven carefully over perfectly asphalted roads.
Drive it over some rocky, bumpy terrain... and the wheels will come off, spilling all passengers onto the rocks below.
