My only thought left is... How much did Wayne McCullough sell his chin to John Duddy for? The lad is made of metal, haven't seen anyone take so many hard and flush shots for a while. I was sure Duddy was going to go from round 9 onwards, couldn't believe he made it to the end.

Credit to both fighters, and classy post-fight interviews too.
    this.

Good for Jr. Seriously, he's been tested a lot early considering how late he started. That can't be overlooked and maybe he's being forced to step up early because he has the undefeated record and the last name but he has skills. He also has some heart and it's asking a lot for someone to be rushed to the top level like Miguel Cotto (ridiculous!) 7 years after having his very first fight! I've always thought he was at least a little bit more naturally talented then others like his brother Omar. I felt bad for him when he got booed after nearly blowing it against the very tough Matt Vanda.

Chavez did better than I thought but Duddy's defence, bloody hell. Duddy makes Carl Froch look like Floyd Mayweather when it comes to defence. Still can't see Chavez beating any legitimate world level middleweight.

I was certain Duddy had what it takes to win against Chavez. Well.. I was dead wrong on that one, unfortunately for the irish boy. Chavez did much better than what I thought but was not close impressive enough in my opinion to be a real champion still.

Before the Chavez Jr. bandwagon gets too crowded, I should warn you all that:

    1. It's made out of soft, suspect material.
    2. It's never been driven over 30 mph.
    3. It's always been driven carefully over perfectly asphalted roads.

Drive it over some rocky, bumpy terrain... and the wheels will come off, spilling all passengers onto the rocks below.

    titofan,

lol...i like your analogy! but seriously, i think chavez jr. has a chance to become something special with the tutelage of roach coach! i mean, he's got all the physical attributes you need like height, arm length, solid chin, genes, and the willingness to become better. he will never be as good as his daddy but if he can be something like 60 pct. of his old man, he'll do alright! is he ready for cotto? hell no but in about a year or so, don't chavez jr. out if they fight.

Big congrats to Jr. The kids job isn't to pick who he fights, or when or where. It's to beat the guys they put there. And that he's done reguardless of what any of us think. That being said us fans are a real fickle bunch. For me one fight good or sometimes even bad doesn't mean much of anything. My feeling towards the kid are more positve but he beat duddy now he should fight cotto ??!! Or hell any top guy ? Same thing with khan. He may have progressed a little slow and against not so great comp, but beating duddy makes him ready for real fights. He may need to step up but you can't have your foot on the brakes then mash on the gas after this one fight. If they do i see jr in for a beat down.

What's his record now? 41-0 with a controversial draw?

I've never rated Chavez and so haven't really followed him for ages, infact I've gone out of my way to not waste my time on reading about him.

What happened in his last fight, was it him or his opponent that got caught out on the drugs test?

My five pence worth after, finally, having seen the fight:

Definitely a contender for fight of the year. Literally ten rounds (after an initial two rounds fought at distance) of brutal inside fighting. I, honestly, don't think John Duddy knows how to block as he hasn't changed from the last time I saw him on the Clottey/Pacquiao undercard from earlier in the year. He just seems to block punches with his head. Obviously it is sheer stupidity but it is like watching a real life Rocky Balboa. Got great heart and I have no idea how he wasn't knocked out during the last three rounds.

Chavez on the other hand was very good, looked very sharp. I don't think he would've looked as good had he fought a fighter who could block shots though, tbh. Would be an interesting bout with Miguel Cotto but I think Miguel wins it.

I was very entertained by the fight. It was one of those all action fights you don't want to look away from...

I still think Chavez Jr. is pretty ordinary but think he could have something here with Roach and his strength and conditioning guy...

    We'll see.
