Thanks again Nameless.. I think I might just go with the Grant ones though. I'm ordering something else off the ringside website anyways.. This way I end up saving on shipping.

ps. I cant reply to your PM because I dont have enough posts yet.. but Thanks!

    Hey Man

If your intention is to compete at amateur level, then you need to ensure that your headguard is AIBA approved (it should have a hologram with the AIBA emblem). In the UK we are very strict on this, if it ain't AIBA approved then you can't use it to compete! In terms of general advice, try to ensure that the sides of the headguard do not protrude too much at the side of your eyes otherwise you lose quite a bit of your peripheral vision. Peripheral vision is vital in a boxing match.

Good luck with choosing your helmet!

Thanks Fran, I already ordered the Grant competition head gear. I'm in Canada so I'm not 100% sure what regulations apply to amateurs here. But I do know that that headgear I ordered is USA Boxing approved.

Either ways.. if I'm not allowed to wear it, I can simply use it for sparring.

Btw.. your site is golden.... thanks

I'm a bit surprised that is allowed as competition headgear. It appears to not have enough open face, and I've seen them refused before because of it (in Canada). For most advancing tours you are wearing what they provide so it doesn't matter. the brand is usually "top ten", as well as the gloves. But also, I have seen these types go thru on club shows. Just not if I'm against them and wearing open face cuz i'll bring it up. I want an equal playing field.
