the Trinidad issue was that Hopkins complained about how Trinidad's camp wrapped his hands, not that a foreign object (plaster) was put into his wraps, and they just rewrapped end of the prob, IMO it was just Hopkins getting under an already emotional Tito's skin (the whole throwing the flag issue)

I met that scumbag Panama Lewis at Kingsway once. What a pile of garbage. I totally agree Irish Billy Collins would have beaten him without that scam. Collins was a good fighter with a good career ahead of him. I hope lewis burns in hell. That and the Aaron Pryor nonesense

Aaron Pryor without the bottle knocked out Alexis 4 rounds sooner

But this documentary was very sad just the fact that all the parties suffered for whats happened except Lewis.

So... is there any links to assault in the ring or a place where we could watch it in replay?

    Post Assault In The Ring

After hearing about the fight between Luis Resto and Billy Collins in one of the Margarito/Pacman threads, I decided to do a little research starting with the classic wikipedia read, then got looking at some pictures then decided to download the documentary "Assault In The Ring" which was made by HBO in 2009.

Very good documentary yet very tragic. I was always a bit sceptic of Luis Resto at the start of the film when he says he didn't know that the gloves had been tampered with. How could you not realise that your gloves were missing half of the padding and you only had to see his reaction when Billy Collins Snr shook his hands at the end of the fight and he looked over to Pamama Lewis as if to say: "oh fuck".

It's strange but, towards the end of the film, I started to feel quite sorry for Luis Resto despite the fact that he did, eventualy, admit to knowing what had happened. I don't think I should have felt sorry for him but it's quite evident from the film just how low the man had sunken - although, it has to be said, it's nothing compared to how Billy Collins turned out. Obviously admitting what happened, along with the admission of the cast being used, has lifted a big weight off of his shoulders.

As for Panana Lewis, the guy is a total wanker. The fact Zab Judah, up until 2008, let him train him still puzzles me. I'd have thought he would want nothing to do with the man with his track record. Good to see Luis Resto telling him 'fuck you' although I wouldn't have shook his hand like Luis did.

What are other people's thoughts? Wasn't sure what to believe of the claims that Billy Collins was offered fights but his father told him to turn them down due to the lawsuits that he believed he would win? Does anyone have an ounce of sympathy for Luis Resto or is it just me?

The incident and documentary were both discussed heavily in this thread a while back:

Panana Lewis has trained Tyson, Botha and many other world-class fighters since then.

This boxing business is an utter disgrace.

Yes please mate, merge the thread.

Just read through the whole thread. Very interesting read. I agree with a couple of the posters though - you only have to look at Collins face and Cotto's face to see the scary similarities.
