Margarito/pac.....and at another bs catchweight ?? Man and i was one of the one's bitching about jones/hopkins. Well tony's first excuse is already in the books. The only thing worse than floyd fighting smaller guys is smaller guys forcing guys below thier weight to fight them. As if there aren't enough divisions already. Next they'll say takedowns and choke out's are legal in every other round too.

if the fight is at 150lb catchweight it won't be below margarito's weight. no this isn't a case of that. the problem is it's going to be for a title and they can't weigh in at the limit. that is where it becomes a b.s. of a fight.

well there is no point in fighting for a title if you don't feel you can compete at the limit of the weight division, why should others have to give up their advantages so that you can say you won a title in that weight class?, and that goes for everyone

The proposed bout is at 154. How can that be advantage for Manny? Anyways, I don't really care if Margacheato goes up to 200 lbs come fight night. HE'S JUST A BIGGER TARGET, THAT'S ALL HE IS. As long as he doesn't carry loaded gloves, then it's fine by me. Pac is keeping the speed under 150 lbs, cuz SPEED KILLS. The longer the fight will take, the visible we will see Margacheato's face turn to ground beef. Lol. He's gonna look like a lasagna with teeth if the fight reaches 12 round.
Who told you that the lasagna will still have teeth when this fight is over?

Kidding aside, Manny is again going up another weight division and will be in unfamiliar territory when he do fight Margarito. His highest weight so far had been 145 3/4 lb. And Margarito had weighted below 150 lb during most of his later fights (except the last one with Garcia). So a catchweight would not really be an advantage for Pacquiao. To me 150 - 152 lb would be acceptable but it should NOT be for the title.

If Manny is aiming for the title, then let there be NO CATCHWEIGHT.

there's no point at fighting at 150-152lbs if it won't be for a title. so they should just fight at 147 for pac's title. or they should fight for the junior middleweight title at the full limit of 154lbs.

I've been reading people write a bunch of crap about how catch weight are bull shit... making arguments how unfair it is.

What the hell are weight classes for! Are they not to create fairness in the sport? How the hell is it unfair advantage for the smaller man when the advantage is made for the larger man by giving him a more than 24 hour weigh-in period so he can qualify to make the weight to rehydrate safely? Just look at what Mayweather did to Marquez. No one knows what Mayweather weighed because he refused the 'unofficial' weigh-in at "fight time". "The boxing weight-in" has got to be the biggest farce of any sport. What the hell is the boxing commission for? The commissions should call the weight at Fight time "the official weight". And stop the bull shit of the "qualifying weigh-in". How does any of this bull shit promote safety in the sport?

Margacheato should have absolutely no problems with 150lbs when he fought Mosley at 147lbs before getting booted. What did Clottey weigh when he stepped into the ring with Pacquiao? 160lbs+ When the big man wins, he's picking on the little man. When the little man wins, he's using unfair weigh-in tactics.

If you're going to compete for a title in a division (regardless of how illegitimate a "title fight" it is), you should work within the established parameters which all other fighters in that division do. You shouldn't use your economic clout to force the creation of a situation which benefits only yourself.

If Pacquiao, or Mayweather, or anyone else, wants to fight for a title below 150lbs, then fight at welter. There are plenty of big, legacy-enhancing fights there that would mean a fuck of a lot more than beating a known cheat and possibly shot fighter who hasn't looked impressive in the ring in over 2 years.

Simply put, if you're too small for a division then either deal with it or don't fight at that weight. This catch-weight bullshit is absurd, regardless of which fighter is making these sorts of demands and it is only going to serve to mitigate Pacquiao's accomplishments at the higher weights.

I agree with the highlighted portion of this post. I wouldn't have a problem with Pacquiao fighting Margarito at an agreed-upon weight of 150. I don't see any problem with that - it's like if Chad Dawson said I would fight Steve Cunningham at 185. Fine, no issue. My only issue is fighting for a junior middleweight title at 150. That doesn't make sense.

I do not think they would fight in Abu Dhabi whatever the weight.

I agree. My main problem is when catchweights are made for title fights, even ones as absurd as Pacquiao - Margarito.

I would also argue that if you want to be considered a legitimate LMW, then you should fight within the parameters of that division (which was the trust of second part of my post). However, I would be amazed if Pacquiao had any interest in staying at 154, so that point is pretty much moot.

That's all the same spit from the bottom of the bucket. (regardless of how illegitimate a "title fight" it is) Ya, What title? Isn't Martinez is the WBC title holder? "WBC International Middleweight Title" It's like inventing a "pink belt" one between Red and Purple in Taekwondo just to make money on testing. I don't even think "International Title" rates as a minor belt anyway so I don't even see it, if Pacquiao wins, being counted as an eight title.

Speaking about "Illegitimate". Any fight within the weight class is "Legitimate" regardless of who can and can't make the weight. It's the fighter's fuking problem if he can't cut it. And if he can't, he's the one that shouldn't be fighting in the division. (My point of view, which happens to be same as the rules.)

I think this fight is a mistake. Margarito shouldn't be allowed to be in any sanctioned fight, anywhere. If I were on the California Commission, I'd threaten to ban Margarito for life, because he's cercumventing the ruling on his ban, and tell Arum he's at risk of losing his promoter's license in California.

First of all, Martinez was stripped of his title. The WBC 154 lb. belt is on the line.

So, hypothetically, you would argue that a fighter who cannot make 148lbs should not be fighting in the light middle weight division? In my eyes, and in the eyes of virtually everybody else, a catchweight title-fight is absurd. The belt is for the champion at the 154lb limit, (ideally) that means the champion of that division is supposed to be the best fighter at 154 lbs or below. It does not mean that they're the best fighter between 148 and 150 lbs.

First off you can't state what most everyone opinion is so that is just BS. I stopped checking who has what belts a while back, but last I read he held both WBC belts at light middle and middleweight. I could understand if he let go of one of the middleweight titles but I never seen any reference that he was stripped. Your probably right though. So tell me how is it a can fighter who never fought at light middleweight and another one not ranked in the top 3 can fight for a vacant title. Doesn't that violate the rules?

There is nothing hypothetical about a weight class range. You are taking a maximum weight limit and calling it a weight class. The 150lbs limit is only a contractual one and not the the limit of the weight class. If he can't make the 154 limit he doesn't belong there. I may not have written it specifically like that but I gather your old enough to understand what implied is? Like I wrote before this is all just the same shit!

I'm of the opinion that weigh-in should be at fight time. Not that BS 24 hour before fight time so a fighter can rehydrate and step into the ring 10 to 15 lbs heavier and gain an unfair advantage. It defeats the purpose of having a weight-class.
