This fight is a lot like Foreman fight IMO, it all depends on how much Cotto has left. I think Cotto will be able to handle Jr., but, from what little I have seen, Chavez is massively underrated because of who his father was. His problem is, like always, going to be his defense and he needs to be wary of Cotto's power.

I guarantee that the winner of this faces the loser of Pac - Margarito (Margarito) if the PBF fight can be made and quite possibly the winner if it cannot.

If Chavez Jr does win that fight, you gotta give Freddie Roach some major credit. I think he can take Cottos power, Duddy hit him pretty good and hes a middleweight, didnt phaze him but one time.

Interesting matchup for sure. I'm in line with generalbulldog really. Sure on paper it looks like a mismatch, Cotto is by far the more acomplished fighter. But Chavez is younger and bigger and has excellent management and trainers behind him. Roach wouldn't allow him into a fight where he was out of his depth and got battered, they obviously see something.

The way he beat John Duddy was impressive. I'm going with Cotto but I think as the fight draws nearer the odds might tighten up.

Alfonso Gomez was able to beat Jose Luis Castillo and Arturo Gatti after all.

Miguel Cotto has a hell of a lot more left than Castillo and Gatti did when Gomez beat them, both guys were beyond shot, and that's the only way i see Chavez Jr beating Cotto

Chavez jr has had 41 fights and is now 24 years of age, that is one long initiation into the world of boxing. He isn't a kid anymore, and if he is to prove he is half the fighter his father was then now is the time to do it. Cotto may no longer be at his best, he has had some wars, but he is still one helluva fighter and Chavez jr will soon know about what a step up in class is all about!

He had no amateur career, I think his trajectory is understandable.
