have you seen any fights where a boxer has stopped punching without the refs involvement, perhaps when he knows his man is hurt

im sure the finish to the second Judah v Spinks fight, judah asked the ref to stop it because spinks was hurt?

im gonna you tube it now
Roy Jones quite regularly used to stop and ask the ref to come in to try and avoid serious injury. It is believed that this was due to the injuries Gerald Mclellan received.

Look around the 2:40 mark. This is just one of the examples of Jones showing mercy. Not just a great fighter!

Rogan v sexton. Rogan was to much of a gentleman to finish the job after sexton cheated and pointed to the referee, as if the ref was going to stop it. Rogans fault in the end for not finishing him however.

I think cotto went easy on foreman in their fight recently towards the end, especially after yuri's knee gave in.

This was the one that sprang to mind for me, Rogan should have laid him out when he had the chance.

Sexton did look on the verge of brain damage at times though, he couldn't even get his gloves up.

Sometimes fighters do it cuz they are too lazy to finish the job or they dont have the ability to knock them out and they need help from the ref. Its not out of mercy. Judah wasnt showing mercy on Spinks. He just wanted to the ref to save him a job. Same with Eubank Wharton. Johnny Nelson did the same thing in round 1 vs some Brazilian. The ref didnt buy it and it went 12 rounds in the end. Rogan was desperate and wanted help from the ref I think. Holmes was boosting is own ego by asking the ref to stop it, he didnt feel for Marvis.

Ayers vs Rigby is the exception as that was a real example of mercy and so was Jones vs Pazienza.
