Default Four man Bantamweight Tournament kicks off on November 6

just read at fightnews.com that the proposed four man bantamweight tournament will kickoff with a brilliant doubleheader on november 6th.

Yonnhy Perez takes on Joseph Agbeko and Vic Darchinyan takes on Abner Mares.

Yonnhy Perez vs. Joseph Agbeko - this is a rematch of earlier this year in which perez beat agbeko for his title. i see perez again getting the upperhand on agbeko and will win another close decision.

Vic Darchinyan vs. Abner Mares - this is a huge test for BOTH fighters, and i think mares is going to KO darchinyan. i think he's just too fast, too technical for vic. i also think mares' chin will be able to hold up really well against the hard hitting darchinyan. mares by UD or late TKO.

I like Mares in this, he is just super well rounded, but Darchinyan can't be slept on he's always dangerous, the winner of that leg takes the tournament. It's some great competition though.

I'm not sold on Vic as a Bantamweight but I appreciate the guts of giving it an honest go.

Very good way to build up to a couple rematches I definitely won't mind watching again. I think Mares outboxes Darchinyan with some trouble spots on the way. Mares is a good talent but he doesn't fight 3 minutes of each round, so he's not going to pitch many shutouts against the top flight opposition because he tries to fight in spots. Perez-Mares is FOTY for me, I enjoyed it just a little bit more then I did Escalante-Roman but I think the latter is going to snag the honor if it stays this way. I have no idea who wins the rematch but I'm shocked how quick people write Perez off. I have even heard some say that Mares schooled him in their first fight, unreal. I am definitely rooting for Yohnny Perez.

I think Agbeko beats down Darch moreso then he did in their first bout. I will never complain about seeing Darchinyan lose. He is an ass.

Vic might be an ass, but he brings the excitement factor with him. You never know what will happen when Vic is fighting. Mijares was supposed to outbox him too and look what happened there? Vic is a chance in any fight he has, Agbeko beat him easily so he's taking a big risk having another crack at 118lb. Good on him for that!

Abner Mares wins the whole thing.

He didn't school him but there's no doubt who the winner was. Abner Mares clearly won by 2 or 3 points. He also beat Yohnny Perez in the Amateur's twice, i just think he has his number.

The counter punching style of Abner Mares, is just all wrong for Yohnny Perez. And he will lose again mark my words.

Abner was getting popped pretty good in his fight with Perez. I think Perez misgauged the end of the fight, ran outta gas and it almost cost him. I had it 1 point for Mares, but I could see a draw. It's not like it was a hometown decision on anything. Great fight, and I can't wait to see the rematch if it should happen.

Agbeko just doesn't have the power to keep people honest, and he doesn't have to boxing skills to back up to if the power doesn't work. He's just too lacking in both departments to win this little tourney. He roughed up Vic in their fight with some tactics, but may have a little more trouble this time around. I felt he put on a performance of a lifetime that night, personally

Abner is an easy pick to win this, but is that just his youth, boxing skills, and record telling the whole story?

abner mares had never been taken into deep waters in his career the way he was taken by perez. this is only going to make him a much better fighter, imo. with this experience, mares went into the fight as a blue chip prospect and came out of it as a serious title contender. i believe he grew up a lot during the fight and showed his class in the final rounds. i cannot forsee mares having much problems with darchinyan, although he's got to respect his power. but boxing wise, mares should be able to figure darchinyan out by the middle rounds and win going away.

The sad part of this tournament and it hasn't happened to me before is that I like all the fighters involved and my opinion is not necessary because this is going to be gret for the lighter bantamweights and great exposure.
