If he would of lost the first Hopkins fight, he would of got a rematch cuz it was close.  A second loss would of ended any chance of a Wright fight.  And yes a good amount of people of written him off.  Even if he would of became champion after Hopkins retired he would of always been dogged with the fact he couldn't beat Hopkins.  it would of took a dominating championship run for him to shake that label.  Which i doubt would of happened. Good enough for you?
