Heavyweight title challenger Shannon Briggs has demanded that WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko resign as Ambassador for UNESCO, citing comments attributed to Vitali that Briggs says trivializes asthma.
Shannon Briggs Statement: “We all know Dr. Klitschko holds a PHD in P.E, as he and his publicist remind us all the time. What many people don’t know is Klitschko holds a much more important distinction, as an Ambassador for UNESCO (United Nations Educational and Cultural Organization). Vitali Klitschko has disgraced this very important post with his ignorant and dangerous remarks about asthma not being a deadly disease and just a good excuse. Any real Doctor and certainly any educated member of UNESCO would know that over 300 million men, women and children suffer from asthma around the world and over 250,000 of them died last year alone. I apologize to all the parents, children, brothers and sisters of those who died from asthma last year for Vitali’s extremely insensitive and ignorant remarks. I hope what he said doesn’t cause even one child who may need help and treatment from asthma to not seek it due to “The Champ’s” dismissive remarks. UNESCO is about education, improving and saving lives, not about spreading ignorance and potentially endangering lives with misinformation.
“Dr. Klitschko get this right: Asthma is a chronic and too often deadly disease. What kind of humanitarian and scientific ambassador would dismiss 250,000 deaths? Please resign your post as Ambassador for Unesco before you say something else that could hurt millions. Your thoughtless remarks are dangerous and as an ambassador you are representing UNESCO every time you speak. Do the right thing and quit UNESCO as you quit in the Chris Byrd fight, when your shoulder hurt. Do the right thing and pull out of Unesco as you pulled out of the Jameeel McCline fight when your back was sore. Do the right thing and cancel your participation in UNESCO, as you’ve canceled so many fights with minor ailments.
“Just so you know, Mr. Ambassador over three million people suffer from asthma in Germany alone. I think you should apologize to all of the now.To educate you further Doc, some of the top research in to Speleotherapy has been done in the Ukraine, where progress has turned the former working salt mines in to hope to alleviate asthmatic symptoms. To further educate you Dr. Klitschko in Kyiv, Ukraine there has been a propensity for childhood asthma, as was confirmed by recent studies showing children as young as six to eight years old struggling to breathe. I think you should apologize to all asthmatic children in the Ukraine immediately. I suggest you read The Study on Epidemiologic Medical and Social Aspects of Asthma report written by real brilliant Doctors in the Ukraine. Asthma is a real disease and you have proven with your extremely dangerous and ignorant comments that you are no real Ambassador. I call on you to resign for your now disgraced Ambassadorship from UNESCO today. The good news is you’ll have plenty of time to study and learn the reality of Asthma because as of September 17th, you’ll be retired after I knock the ignorance out of you! I want to state UNESCO is a great organization that helps promote education and science in eight thousand schools in over one hundred seventy countries and started The International Council for Science. I have tremendous respect for UNESCO and the great work they do, it’s a shame one ignorant individual like Vitali could stain such a valuable institution and after he finally shows real courage and resigns, I’ll do whatever I can to help with education about the world’s real problems.”
