I think Peter-Klitschko I is a good example Fenster. In the buildup to that fight, it was definitely a boxer vs crude puncher deal and they fought like that too. At the time, Peter was the hardest puncher in the division. Wlad fought like it too. I don't think that's a bad example at all.
Also, I know this thread is a prelude to the Khan-Maidana fight but Khan is a decent puncher himself and don't forget that Ortiz put him down 3 times and Corley had him on queer street. I know he's a big puncher but I'm just not sure this guy has the skillset to actually find Khan's chin without his getting found out first. I think Khan has an equally good shot at a TKO/KO win then he does at a decision win. I would bet on either of those results before I would bet on a Maidana win too.
Ortiz fought a very stupid fight against Maidana. He knocked him down early and then got dragged into a total firefight. I forget which fight it was that was canceled which forced Ortiz into main billing in the Staples Center on HBO but I definitely think the pressure got to him. In a rematch, I would pick Ortiz to win. Roach won't let Khan get suckered into that type of fight, or anything remotely resembling it. I forgot just how foolish Ortiz was for fighting that type of fight but I think he was just overly nervous and got tricked into thinking he could bomb Maidana out. If he went at him the way he went at Nate Campbell, it would've been a different result.
I would pick Ortiz, Peterson and Khan to all handle Maidana on Saturday if they stayed disciplined but all could potentially get sparked. I think it would be cool if they had the winners and losers of each fight fight each other. It would go Khan-Peterson and Ortiz-Maidana imo.
