i'm not saying it's over for victor ortiz! what i'm trying to convey is as a boxer, if you've got just a pinch of doubt, it could affect your performance. i will say that fernando vargas was never the same after his defeat to trinidad and victor ortiz, although still young and learning, can turn it all around but after last night's bullshit performance, he's got a long way to go.
no contest,
you cannot compare the jeff lacy's before and after the calzaghe fight. and say what you will about calzaghe being a "slapper", he had lacy hurt and befuddled in that fight. a pre lacy was considered this indestructible fighter and once he got manhandled by calzaghe, he was never in the same mental state!
You could see Lacy as flawed prior, he was only considered indestructable by network barkers who compared him foolishly to a "young Evander Holyfield". The only thing that kept him in Joe fight and later scraps I believe was his chin and mental stubborness. Boxing wise he was never fully there in first place.
He fought Vitali Tsypko right after Calzaghe, and thats were he tore his rotator cuff. He fought halfway through the fight with it and probably should have lost to Tsypko. He was so effected by Calzaghe he fought through an injury to win. Every fight after that he was shit.
his shoulder healed in time but mentally, he was shot!
Dudes name was LEFT HOOK Lacy...he ruined his money punch, ever see him throw the same type of left hooks? What kind of evidence you got that he was mentally shot? Got an example thats not related to his output being down from his shoulder?
Wars...beatings and being a one trick pony of a puncher ruin fighters. Being a stubborn mentally thick type lets you keep coming back to soak them up,unfortunately. Calzaghe exposed his lack of skill firstly and more so. He was very determined, determined to take that beating.
Why did he spend the whole entire build up to this fight talking about how he'd had surgery and extensive rehab on his shoulder and that the injury was now recovered then?
If his shoulder was better then why would he lose to a fighter like Smith? Never been the same fighter since Calzaghe that's why.
