That is a good way to describe people who dismiss Mayorga!
Ok, Mayorga has done very little to merit any sort of world standing since the Picarillo fight but he has always been at least competative until he runs out of steam since then.
Like I said, hes not really interested in any legacy, just earning. If he can get straight shots at big names for big money he will do it. Hes never recently given himself the luxury of warm ups, or tune ups. Hes always been sat around for a year and then got a call out of the blue to be an "opponent" and as tough as Mayorga is, he knows he can compete and just takes it.
This time though, hes had a fight to get rid of the rust. It will be Cotto whos been out for 9 months and as long as Mayorga is concentrating on this (possible) shot right now and continuing to train from his last fight, then he gives himself a very good shot of a KO win.
There is a photo of Mayorgas last fight where he is swinging a hook to Walker while he cowers on his haunches in the corner. It reminded me of a shot from the Cotto Margarito fight![]()
