Glass Chins

In light of the recent ko of Paul Williams by Sergio, I wanted to get a little feed back on people's thoughts on boxers who, past or present, have been tabbed with the "glass chin" moniker.
For starters, I hope Paul doesn't because that punch was as perfect as a punch can be!

Arguments for or against people like Lewis, Jones, Hearns, et. al.

Pauls chin was solid. He just had to go to the well one too many times. I believe its free season on his beard now...open for business. He'll try to fight tall now but he's to familiar.

Jones jr just never had to deal with being hit clean along with his legs and reflexes going awol at once. Reflexes made him. Joke Tarver all you want but he taxed Jones very badly over three. Mentally as well as physically.

Lewis has a good chin. Deduct TWO shots from his career, bricks.....and He dealt with bigger, bader hitters and won. One thing that gets lost is he also revenged thoses loses big time.

I remember a boxer saying that the best way to deal with a punch is to not get hit. Pertaining to your topic I've never understood how people could possibly label Lennox Lewis as have a suspect chin. He was knocked out only twice but more importantly he was caught with flush shots by VERY BIG MEN. Granted they might not be on pd 4 pd punchers lists but who could've taken those shots?

Yeh I agree mate. I think we could question his defence more than his chin, I don't think any boxer in history would've stayed up from the 2 shots that floored him.

I know its getting a bit tired coming from me but look at the clean right hands Tyson took from Lewis before he got pushed down!

Look at the clean shots Mayorga took from Forrest and Trinidad. Id say that Mayorga has a better chin than David Haye and not even on a relative pound for pound basis either. There is no way that Haye could take that many clean shots from either Trinidad or Forrest and not at least do a little wobble I dont mean theyd beat him in a fight necasseraly but if they were allowed free shots on Haye, theyd hurt him. I used to box amature from light middle to light heavy weight and some of the lighter lads id spar could deffinitly hurt you regardless of their weight. Its not all about power or loading the shots up, its about just being able to land them clean.

Morrison was not too bad at taking punches, but a combination of hard shots usually hurt him badly. Michael Moore springs to mind when I think of glass jaws.
Despite people have already tried to clear Lennox of glass jaw status, Lennox appeared to not like straight shots to the head. Oliver Mcall nocked him down with one, Shannon Briggs sent Lewis wobbling when he hit him with one. Any other kind of shot and Lennox took it fine, it was weird.

I dont think Micheal Moore had a glass chin, he was a natural light heavy/cruiserweight that was fighting big punching heavyweights. Enzo Maccarenelli seems to get ko'd quite a bit.
