I am a Leonard detractor, never liked the way he tried to be another 'Sugar ray' when there was only ever one REAL Sugar Ray, never liked the way he was all sweet and smiley and earned big money without having to pay his dues, never liked the fact they gave him the Hagler decision, thought Hearns was robbed against him the second time etc etc etc.

BUT:

A really well written article, making some excellent points and reminding me that (despite my prejudices against Leonard) he really was one of the most electrifying talents to step into the ring in the modern era, and that underneath all that sugar and saccharine, beat the heart of a fighter who went toe to toe with some of the meanest, toughest sob's in history. Say what you like about Leonard - and believe me, I do - he was all fighter
