Dear all
It has been interesting reading about the suject "Superfeather weight jinks".
My view on why the title was never retained over that period of time was partly to do with weight loss and dehydration to the body - if you look back at that period between 1986 and 1993 there was some big superfeather weights who were probably walking around over the ten stone limit, so most of them had to shed over 14lb before each fight - for the likes of myself, Pat Cowdell, Floyd Harvard, and Najib Daho (R I P), who was a big muscular superfeather weight, getting down to 9st 4lb was hard work and energy draining .
Today there a lot more safety guidelines towards making the weight i.e. fighters diets and training programmes are a lot more scientific.
Maybe someone like Gary Newbon might one day do a documentry "where are they now"
and get each fighters view on their defence. I think it was an unusual and exciting time in British boxing and maybe there was a real Jinks on the superfeather weight title!
Kind regards
Former British and Commonwealth Superfeather weight champion
Hugh Forde
