I was shamefully, woefully wrong when I "thought" (read: hoped with all my might) that Arturo Gatti would fight competitively against Floyd Mayweather. More of a fan thing than a boxing prediction, but as much as I dislike Floyd and as much as I liked Arturo, I was really chomping at the bit for Gatti to rough him up, pound the elbows, arms, any target at all he could find in Mayweather's serpentine postural defenses. Jesus, was I wrong, ate crow, and----being a writer at that time for rabbitpunchboxing.com---had to submit an article admitting my wrongness titled "Gatti Takes a Shellacking".
I had spoken via conference call to Gatti and James ‘Buddy” McGirt a few days before the fight, and Buddy told me personally they had a plan that Gatti would hit Floyd behind the ear---"Hakoona Matata" he was calling it jokingly---and hit any available target like Marciano used to do. They had me convinced........![]()
