What a stupid thread. I'm not normally one for knocking other peoples threads but this is utter pathetic. I'm guessing it's an MMA fan who is STILL stuck in the whole MMA vs Boxing thing. Get a grip man for christ sake.

there is an odd dichotomy there, though, the OP is onto something, quite subtle as well. See, one the 1 hand, boxers try to hurt their opponents, but on the other hand they aren't allowed to hurt them TOO much, i.e. they must wear handwraps and gloves, can't hit behind the head, etc... But then on the 3rd hand (haha) they don't have to wear head gear---so they can hurt them real bad if they punch the FRONT of their heads! Just not the BACK, OK? dont wanna hurt them TOO much! It is a bit funny if you think about it. Its like the liar US govt saying "we want democracy worldwide" but then when a party in Algeria or Lebanon wins in a perfectly legal election, and who happens to NOT be who the CIA wanted to rule in that country, suddenly the elected party or official ISN'T RECOGNIZED by the US govt! wtf Hurt the boxers but not too much. No headgear BUT ya better wrap those hands and wear gloves! No rabbit punching BUT you can blast the FRONT of his skull off if you can! Go for it! BUT if you hurt him he's entitled to a standing 8 count!

To paraphrase Joyce Carol Oates: boxing is not a sport because you can't play boxing.

The only thing that I took from it is that the OP has never hit a human skull with their bare knuckles (or is extremely feather fisted). Gloves are more to protect the hands and other than reducing swelling/cuts during sparring season, I see head guards as being relatively useless for protection.

Next you'll be telling us that heading a football has no place in sport because the players don't wear pillows on their head.
