Default Mosley tells Mayweather: "Go fight Margarito!"

By Paul Upham: Sugar Shane Mosley closed the door today on any chance of a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr in November. It had been rumoured that Mayweather and his team were waiting on the outcome of Mosley's rematch with Fernando Vargas on July 15 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to see whether he is available for a battle on November 4.

"They can stop thinking about that, because that won't happen," Mosley said, on Thursday. "They can still come to the fight and check it out, but it won't happen in November. If it happens, it won't happen until next year. I won't be taking another fight until next year."

34 year-old Mosley's message for Mayweather Jr was clear.

"Basically, go fight (Antonio) Margarito. Then I can fight the winner," he said.

Mosley 42-4 (36) says he wants the fight with Mayweather, but he won't fight again in 2006 after two fights with the naturally bigger Vargas at junior middleweight.

"I'm pretty sure that Floyd would be interested in it, but I have to take some time to get to 147," he explained. "I have to take me a little break after two fights with basically a 160 pounder. We are going to relax and see where we go from here, but definitely, the next fight will be at welterweight."

Considered one of the best boxers in the world pound for pound in 2000 and 2001 after his first win over Oscar De La Hoya, Mosley has a goal to get back to the top of the sport again.

"I definitely want to be considered the pound for pound the best again, as far as with the writers," he said. "I feel that in my heart that I am already the best out there, but I am going to have to show it and prove it to the world."

Instead of givin Vargas another boxing lesson and pay day, he shoulda been steppin up to the plate and fighting Floyd IMO. When he was at 147 after beating cruz and Estrada he should have then challenged either Judah or Floyd. I think it is Mosley who is avoiding guys who could seriously beat him, I don't think he really wants a big challenge. He doesn't want to risk losing another fight.

You get the biggest CC I have given anyone ever! That is one heck of an emphatic article!!!Mosley is coming back to 147!! and he would fight Margarito!!! Floyd just needs to shut his mouth, there is no offer bigger than $8million,who is left on his list?? If Tony beats Floyd,Shane awaits!! Wicked! 147 is the best division in boxing today and with Cotto moving up,the possibilites are endless!!

Dam right he is running out of excuses and I remember his team and some Floyd nut hugger on Boxingtalk saying that Floyd has a fight which will be more lucrative than fighting Tony for $8mill,what fight were they alluding to?> Mosley right....not anymore!!

There is still one left for PBF to use: I'll fight the winner of Gatti/Baldomir . I don't understand why he goes around making these demands,he is not a main attraction/superstar type of fighter with millions of fans who adore a la Cotto,Tito/Oscar/Gatti etc and probably never will be so why not just take an easy pay day against Tony.

I am not interested in seeing Mosley fight PBF, it would be totally onesided. But then again I am not interested in seeing Mosley fight Vargas either, I will agree with you that PBF is running out of excuses, I don't know what is going through his head. He is 29 years old and in his prime (no spring chicken) he's waited to be the king of boxing for the last 5 years (Hopkins was previous) take the big fight and fight Margarito, Tony has not been invincible in the ring, so why would the king of boxing be avoiding him, this is crazy.

saying floyd is not a main attraction/superstar is absurd

seriously bro, are you THAT biased?
he is number 1 right now
but i seriously believe he needs to fight tony
    theres no-one left
we'll see what happens, cuz when youre the man you do get the luxury of mulling your options

No Frozensolid bro,you know I'm a Floyd fan,any fan of pure boxing should be but of course he ios not the main attraction, tell me when he has been. He has ADDED to the main attraction but never"Oh wow,it's Floyd fighting, this should be exciting"(average fan)Aginst Gatti,it was Gatti as the main man, against Zab,it was the whole hip hop thug look of both fighters, against Jesus, there were LOADS AND LOADS of people from the Latino community so yep,I am saying he is not the main attraction.I don't think he appeals to the average fan in the way a Tito or an Oscar does. That's not bias,I think he is an awesome awesome fighter but that does not mean he is a superstar $$$ wise.

Barrera, Pacquiao, Hatton, Calzaghe, B-hop = all much bigger draws than PBF.

I know your a big Floyd fan and Mich resident Frozen - but out of town and across the pond nobody cares for him.

    He has no 'public'.

He has skill - but is not an endearing invidual.

Mosley has already touched on this. A while back, and forgive me for not having an article, but he said that Floyd Mayweather is the best fighter in the world and he isn't ready to take on Mayweather. He's an honest guy and he admitted that he would be no match for Mayweather. He also touched on Margarito, saying that the only person who doesn't have an excuse for not facing Margarito is Floyd. Appearantly he is reiterating this.

    CC back Game.

My sad-clicks seem to soar when i talk about Floyd.

Truth is, i would love to love him - but he is not living up to his star-studded reputation.

Dodging dangerous opponents, cherry-picking weak title holders.

He has had no fights against P4P legends - the main man Oscar is past his prime, so does not count in my book anymore.

    Cotto, Hatton, Margarito - warriors.

    Judah, PBF - posers.

    las vegas native

and no way are hatton and calzaghe bigger draws than floyd in the us...

and when floyd fights its one of the biggest draws in boxing, half the people there are there to see him

and the other half are there to see him lose

and for the record, floyd and judah almost sold out the thomas and mack (extremely big venue)

trust me....... there were many more people there for floyd than there were for judah (especially since judah had just lost to baldomir)
